Google has removed a total of 85 malicious apps from the Play Store, as security researchers found these apps to be similar to an adware family. These apps were available on the Android Play Store in the form of game, TV and remote control simulator apps. These adware are capable of displaying full screen advertisements, hiding themselves, monitoring the screen unlocking functionality of the device and running in the background of the mobile device. These apps have been downloaded more than 9 million times from the Play Store, out of which an app named “Easy Universal TV Remote” alone has been downloaded more than 5 million times. It is the most downloaded app in the list of 85 adware apps. Despite being signed by different developers and by different AP’s public key certificates, the apps displayed the same source code and shared the same source code.
