UPSSSC Platoon Commander: Preparation Tips
- Prioritize High-Weightage Sections: Start your preparation by focusing on the heavily weighted subjects. Part 3 (Uttar Pradesh Specific Knowledge) alone holds 20 marks. Purchase a reliable, up-to-date book specifically dedicated to Uttar Pradesh general knowledge. Similarly, Computer Knowledge carries 15 marks ; ensure you understand modern concepts like AI and Machine Learning, not just basic hardware.
- Master Data Interpretation: With Data Interpretation contributing 10 marks to your total score, consistent practice is non-negotiable. Spend time analyzing different types of graphs, charts, and statistical diagrams. This section is highly scoring if your foundational math and observation skills are strong.
- Integrate Current Events & Environment: Dedicate 30 minutes daily to reading a reputable newspaper. This will naturally cover the 5 marks for Current Events and will also help you stay updated on ongoing efforts in Disaster Management and Environmental Ecology, which holds a massive 10 marks.
- Mind the Negative Marking: Because there is a 25% penalty for wrong answers, accuracy is just as important as the number of attempts. During mock tests, practice leaving questions blank if you are entirely unsure, rather than relying on guesswork.
- Prepare for the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) Early: Remember that this is a uniformed service role. Clearing the written exam is only the first step. You must also pass the qualifying Physical Efficiency Test. Male candidates are required to run 4.8 km in 25 minutes, while female candidates must complete 2.4 km in 14 minutes. Do not wait for the written exam results to start running; incorporate cardiovascular training into your daily routine now to ensure you are physically capable when the time comes.
