Preparation Tips
- Prioritize the Math and Data Section: With 60 out of 100 questions dedicated to “Analytical and Mathematical Capability”, this section will make or break your score. Dedicate the bulk of your study schedule to practicing basic arithmetic, algebra, and particularly data interpretation tasks involving charts and graphs.
- Master Time Management: You have 120 minutes to solve 100 questions. While this translates to more than a minute per question, reading comprehensive passages and solving multi-source data tables can eat up your time. Practice solving mock tests with a timer to build speed.
- Read Actively for Comprehension: The Reading Comprehension section pulls passages from diverse topics like mythology, science, and technology, expecting you to deduce the main idea, logical structure, and style. Habitual reading of editorials and articles across varied subjects will naturally improve your performance here.
- Avoid Guesswork: Because there is a strict 1/3rd negative marking penalty for incorrect answers in the CBT, blind guessing can ruin your chances. Only attempt questions where you are reasonably confident.
- Prepare for the CBAT Early: Do not wait until the CBT results are out to understand the Aptitude Test. The RRB advises candidates to visit the RDSO website (www.rdso.indianrailways.gov.in) to familiarize themselves with the question patterns and guidelines for the CBAT. Getting comfortable with the battery of tests early on will give you a massive edge.
