The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released the official notice for the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) to be held in February 2026. If your goal is to teach students from Class I to Class VIII in Central Government schools, passing this test is a necessary step. The upcoming exam is scheduled for Sunday, 8th February 2026.

CTET February 2026 : Educational Qualification
CTET Paper 1 (Classes 1-5)
Candidates must fulfill any one of the following criteria:

Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.

Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (in accordance with NCTE Regulations, 2002).

Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of a 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed).

Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education).

Graduation with at least 50% marks and Bachelor of Education (B.Ed).
CTET Paper 2 (Classes 6-8)
Candidates must fulfill any one of the following criteria:

Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of a 4-year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed).

Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of a 4-year B.A/B.Sc.Ed or B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed.

Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in a 1-year B.Ed. (Special Education).

Post-graduation with a minimum of 55% marks (or equivalent) and a three-year integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed.

Candidates possessing a qualified B.Ed Programme recognized by the NCTE are also eligible.
Application Fee and Process
You must apply for CTET “ONLINE” through the official website. Offline applications are not accepted.

Application Process:
- Log on to the official website: https://ctet.nic.in.
- Click on the link that says “Apply Online”.
- Fill in the online application form carefully and write down your Registration Number.
- Upload your latest scanned photograph and signature in JPG/JPEG format.
- Pay the examination fee using a debit card, credit card, or net banking.
- Print the Confirmation Page for your own records. You do not need to send this page to the CTET unit.
Selection Process
Selection is based entirely on passing the written examination.
- The exam consists of Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) where you must pick the correct option out of four.
- There is no negative marking, so you should attempt all questions.
- A person who scores 60% or more in the exam will be considered “TET pass”.
- The CTET qualifying certificate is valid for a lifetime. You can take the exam again to improve your score if you wish.
Exam Pattern
There are two papers in CTET.
- Paper I: For those who intend to be a teacher for Classes I to V (Primary Stage).
- Paper II: For those who intend to be a teacher for Classes VI to VIII (Elementary Stage).
- Both: If you want to be eligible for both levels, you must sit for both papers.

Note: For Paper II, you must choose specifically between Mathematics & Science OR Social Studies depending on your subject expertise.
Syllabus
Paper I Syllabus:
- Child Development and Pedagogy: Focuses on educational psychology for children aged 6-11 years. Topics include inclusive education, learning, and cognition.
- Language I & II: Language I focuses on the medium of instruction, while Language II focuses on communication skills.
- Mathematics: Includes Geometry, Shapes, Solids, Numbers, Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division, Measurement, Weight, Time, Volume, Data Handling, Patterns, and Money.
- Environmental Studies (EVS): Topics cover Family and Friends, Work and Play, Animals, Plants, Food, Shelter, Water, Travel, and Things We Make and Do.
Paper II Syllabus:
- Child Development and Pedagogy: Focuses on educational psychology for children aged 11-14 years.
- Mathematics (for Math/Science candidates): Number System, Algebra, Geometry, Mensuration, and Data Handling.
- Science (for Math/Science candidates): Food, Materials, The World of the Living, Moving Things, How things work, Natural Phenomena, and Natural Resources.
- Social Studies (for Social Studies candidates): History (Earliest Societies, Empires, Independence), Geography (Planet Earth, Environment, Agriculture), and Social and Political Life (Diversity, Government, Democracy).
Preparation Tips
- The questions for Paper I are based on the NCERT syllabus for classes I-V, but the difficulty level can be up to the Secondary stage. For Paper II, questions are based on the NCERT syllabus for classes VI-VIII, with difficulty up to the Senior Secondary stage.
- You must choose two different languages. Language I focuses on proficiency in instruction, while Language II focuses on elements of communication. Make sure you practice reading passages and poetry.
- It is advised to refer to the NCERT syllabus and textbooks. These are the most authentic sources for your preparation.
- You are expected to reach the center 120 minutes before the exam starts. This allows time for biometric authentication and finding your seat without rushing.
Admit Card
The admit card is a very important document. You cannot enter the examination hall without it.
- You can download the e-Admit Card from the CTET official website.
- It will be available for download two days before the examination date.
- If there is any mistake on your admit card (like your name, photo, or signature), you must contact the CTET Unit immediately for corrections before the exam.
Result
- The result is tentatively scheduled to be declared by the end of March 2026.
- CBSE will provide mark sheets and eligibility certificates in Digital Format in your DigiLocker account.
- These digital documents will be legally valid and will have an encrypted QR code for security.
- Your DigiLocker account credentials will be sent to the mobile number you registered with CBSE.
