The UPPSC Food Safety Officer (FSO) Exam is conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission to recruit qualified candidates for the post of Food Safety Officer in the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department of Uttar Pradesh. The examination aims to select professionals responsible for ensuring the safety, quality, and hygiene of food products across the state. Food Safety Officers play an important role in implementing and enforcing the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 by inspecting food establishments, collecting samples, and monitoring compliance with food safety regulations.

UPPSC Food Safety Officer: Exam Pattern

The selection process is divided into three successive stages:

1. Preliminary Examination (Qualifying)

The Prelims consist of two objective-type papers conducted on OMR sheets.

  • Paper I (General Studies I): 200 marks, 150 questions, 2 hours. This paper determines the merit for qualifying for the Main exam.
  • Paper II (General Studies II/CSAT): 200 marks, 100 questions, 2 hours. This is a qualifying paper where candidates must score at least 33%.
  • Negative Marking: One-third (0.33) of the marks assigned to a question will be deducted for every wrong answer.

2. Main (Written) Examination

Candidates who pass the Prelims move to the Conventional (Written) stage.

Preparation Tips

  1. Master the “UP Special” Content: Since Papers V and VI of the Mains are dedicated to Uttar Pradesh, focus heavily on the state’s agriculture, food policies, and geography.
  2. Focus on Food Technology Basics: While the PCS syllabus is broad, the FSO role requires a firm grasp of the “Food processing and related industries” section in GS III.
  3. Practice Answer Writing: For the Mains, speed and clarity in conventional writing are key. Use a Black Ball Point Pen as required for OMR sheets in Prelims and focus on legible handwriting for written papers.
  4. Qualify the CSAT: Don’t ignore Paper II of the Prelims. Practice Class X level Math, English, and Hindi to ensure you hit the 33% threshold.
  5. Stay Updated: Regularly read newspapers for current events, especially those related to food safety regulations and national development programs
