The UPPSC Assistant Town Planner (ATP) examination is conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission to recruit qualified professionals for urban and regional planning roles in Uttar Pradesh. Main (Written) Examination Syllabus

The Main exam consists of two papers. Note: The technical syllabus for Town Planning in the Preliminary exam (100 questions) is identical to the Paper II syllabus for the Main exam.

Paper I: General Hindi and Essay (100 Marks)

General Hindi (50 Marks)Précis writing (संक्षेपण), comprehension questions, explanation of underlined parts, and suitable title. Includes synonyms, antonyms, one-word substitutions, spellings, sentence construction, idioms, and common errors in the Hindi language.
Hindi Essay (50 Marks)One essay (500-word limit) from the following areas: Literature/Culture, National Development Plans, National/International Social Problems, Science/Environment, Natural Calamities, or Agriculture/Industry/Trade.

Preparation Tips

  1. Prioritize the O.T.R.: You cannot apply without a One Time Registration (O.T.R.) number. Obtain this at least 72 hours before you plan to submit your application
  2. Master the Technical Syllabus: Since the 100 Prelims questions and the 200-mark Mains paper share the same technical syllabus, focus heavily on Planning Theory and Legislation.
  3. Hone Your Hindi Skills: Don’t neglect Paper I of the Mains. Practice Précis writing, idioms, and grammar, and ensure your Hindi Essay stays within the 500-word limit.
  4. Practice Objective Accuracy: With 0.33 negative marking, practice eliminating options in objective tests to avoid losing marks on guesses.
  5. Focus on UP Data: For General Studies, dedicate time to the specific socio-economic profile and traditions of Uttar Pradesh, as this is a highlighted segment of the syllabus.
  6. Review Planning Laws: Knowledge of the Land Acquisition Act and Environmental Law is vital for the descriptive answers in the Main exam.
