Preparation Tips

  • Master the Negative Marking Rule: The objective-type preliminary and main examinations carry a penalty for wrong answers. One-third (0.33) of the marks assigned to a question will be deducted for every incorrect response. If you give more than one answer to a single question, it will be treated as wrong and penalized identically. Practice eliminating options rather than guessing blindly.
  • Target Minimum Efficiency Standards: To ensure placement in the merit list, focus on clearing the minimum threshold. Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates must secure a minimum of 35% marks. Candidates from all other categories have a minimum efficiency standard set at 40%. Securing marks below these percentages leads to direct disqualification.
  • Prepare for High School Level Hindi: Since the General Hindi paper is formulated to test fundamental understanding and word usage at a High School level, brush up on standard grammar, vocabulary, and basic sentence structuring.
  • Streamline General Knowledge Study: The General Knowledge questions will test your awareness of everyday scientific occurrences along with standard Indian History, Polity, and Geography. The notification notes that candidates should be able to answer these without requiring extensive, specialized study, so focus on broad concepts and current affairs.
  • Practice Perfect OMR Etiquette: Your preparation should include practicing with OMR sheets. The UPPSC strictly mandates the use of only Black Ball Point Pens for blackening the circles. The use of any other pen, pencil, whitener, blade, or rubber is strictly prohibited. Incorrectly filled OMR sheets will not be evaluated by the scanner.
