The SSC JE Tier 2 Exam, conducted by the Staff Selection Commission, is the second stage of the Junior Engineer recruitment process. SSC JE Tier 2: Preparation Tips

  1. Prioritize Accuracy over Guesswork: The penalty in Paper-II is steep—1 full mark is deducted for every incorrect answer. You cannot afford blind guessing. Focus your preparation on conceptual clarity so you only attempt questions you are confident about.
  2. Master the On-Screen Calculator: SSC now provides a scientific calculator, steam tables, and IS codes directly on your computer console. Do not rely on physical calculators during your practice. Take online mock tests that feature virtual calculators to build your speed and muscle memory.
  3. Stick to the Diploma Standard: The official notification explicitly states that the difficulty level will be approximately at the Diploma in Engineering standard. While it is tempting to study advanced B.Tech level textbooks, ground your primary preparation in standard diploma coursework to ensure you cover the absolute basics thoroughly.
  4. Simulate Exam Conditions: Paper-II requires you to solve 100 highly technical questions in just 120 minutes. This means you have roughly 1.2 minutes per question. Regularly sit for 2-hour uninterrupted mock tests to build stamina and practice time management.
  5. Focus on High-Weightage Topics: Analyze previous years’ question papers to identify recurring themes. For instance, Civil engineers must heavily focus on Estimating & Costing , RCC Design , and Building Materials.
