The Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level (SSC CGL) Exam is one of the most prestigious national-level competitive examinations conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC). It is organized annually to recruit graduates for various Group B and Group C posts in ministries, departments, and organizations under the Government of India. Through SSC CGL, candidates are selected for positions such as Assistant Section Officer, Inspector (Income Tax, Customs, GST), Auditor, Accountant, and Sub-Inspector in different central government offices.
The examination is conducted in multiple tiers, including Tier-I (preliminary), Tier-II (main examination), and sometimes a skill test or document verification process. The exam assesses candidates’ proficiency in subjects like General Intelligence and Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, English Comprehension, and General Awareness. SSC CGL offers stable government jobs, attractive salaries, career growth, and job security, making it highly popular among graduates across India.

SSC CGL Exam Pattern
The SSC CGL 2025 follows a two-tier Computer Based Examination system. Understanding the weightage of each section is the first step toward a winning strategy.
Tier-I: The Screening Stage
Tier-I is an objective-type, multiple-choice exam. It serves as a qualifying round to shortlist candidates for the next stage. There is a negative marking of 0.50 for every wrong answer.
| Subject | Questions | Marks | Duration |
| General Intelligence & Reasoning | 25 | 50 | 60 Minutes |
| General Awareness | 25 | 50 | 60 Minutes |
| Quantitative Aptitude | 25 | 50 | 60 Minutes |
| English Comprehension | 25 | 50 | 60 Minutes |
Tier-II: The Merit Stage
Tier-II consists of Paper-I (Compulsory for all) and Paper-II (Only for JSO/Statistical Investigator posts). Merit is calculated based on Tier-II performance only. Negative marking here is 1 mark for Paper-I (Sections I, II, III) and 0.50 marks for Paper-II.
| Paper | Section | Subject | Questions | Marks |
| Paper-I | Section-I | Mathematical Abilities; Reasoning & General Intelligence | 60 total | 180 |
| Section-II | English Language; General Awareness | 70 total | 210 | |
| Section-III | Computer Knowledge Test (Qualifying) | 20 | 60 | |
| Section-IV | Data Entry Speed Test (Qualifying) | 1 Task | – | |
| Paper-II | Statistics | Statistics (For JSO/SI Grade-II) | 100 | 200 |

Preparation Tips
- Master the Basics first: For the Quantitative Aptitude section, focus on 10th-standard level mathematics as prescribed in the syllabus. Build speed in calculation for topics like Percentage, Profit & Loss, and Interest.
- Focus on Current Affairs: The General Awareness section explicitly tests your knowledge of the environment and current events. Read a daily newspaper to prepare for both GA and the Tier-II English comprehension passages.
- Don’t Ignore “Qualifying” Sections: Many candidates fail because they don’t take the Computer Knowledge Test or the Data Entry Speed Test (DEST) seriously. Practice typing to reach 2000 key depressions in 15 minutes.
- Practice Sectional Timing: In Tier-II, Section-I and Section-II are timed separately for one hour each. You must train your brain to switch between Math/Reasoning and English/GA within these rigid windows.
- Review the Post Preferences: Before the final result, you must submit post preferences online. Be aware that some posts (like Inspector in CBIC or Sub-Inspector in CBI) have strict Physical and Medical Standards. Ensure you meet these criteria before listing them as a preference
