SSB SI: Exam Pattern
Candidates who qualify the Physical Standard Test (PST) will advance to the Written Examination. The written test is a Computer Based Test (CBT) consisting of a Common Entrance Test that spans a total of 3 hours.

Important Note on Merit: To qualify, General, EWS, OBC, and Ex-SM candidates must score a minimum of 50%, while SC and ST candidates must score at least 45%. Furthermore, if candidates score equal marks, the one who secures higher marks in Part-II (Technical Subject) will be ranked higher in the final merit list.

Preparation Tips
- Prioritize Your Technical Subject (Part-II) Accounting for 100 out of the 150 marks, your technical subject is the deciding factor in your selection. Since tie-breaking rules favor candidates with higher technical scores, you must ensure your foundation is rock solid. Review your degree or diploma curriculum. If you are applying for Pioneer, focus heavily on Civil Engineering principles. For Communication, brush up on IT, Computer Science, and Electronics.
- Strengthen the Fundamentals (Part-I) Do not neglect Part-I, as it holds 50 crucial marks.
- Mathematics & Reasoning: Practice daily. Speed and accuracy are your best friends here. Solve previous years’ question papers from similar paramilitary or central police organization exams.
- General Knowledge: Read a reliable daily newspaper and a monthly current affairs magazine. Focus on national news, defense updates, and basic static GK.
- Language (English/Hindi): Choose the language you are most comfortable with. Read editorials daily to improve comprehension and practice basic grammar rules.
- Do Not Ignore the Physical Tests (PET/PST) While studying is vital, you must meet the physical requirements to even sit for the written test.
- If you are applying for the Communication post, you must pass the Physical Efficiency Test (PET), which requires running 1.6 Kms in 6 Minutes 30 Seconds for males, and 800 Meters in 4 minutes for females. Start a daily running routine to build stamina.
- (Note: The Staff Nurse and Pioneer posts are exempt from the PET race, but still require passing the physical measurements in the PST).
- Ensure your weight is proportionate to your height and age, as overweight or underweight candidates can be disqualified during the Detailed Medical Examination (DME).
- Time Management and Mock Tests You have 150 questions to solve in 180 minutes. This gives you a little over a minute per question. Take full-length, timed mock tests on a computer to simulate the CBT environment. This will train your brain to handle exam pressure and help you identify which sections take up too much of your time.
