- Prioritize the Technical Subject (For Head Constables) If you are applying for the Head Constable roles, your domain knowledge is your biggest asset. The Technical Subject section (Part-II) accounts for a massive 100 marks out of the total 150. Review your one-year certificate course materials in Laboratory Assistance or Physiotherapy. Furthermore, scoring high here is strategically critical; in the event of a tie in overall marks, the candidate who secures more marks in the Part-II (Technical Subject) will be ranked higher on the final merit list.
- Master the Negative Marking Scheme Accuracy is just as important as speed. The written exam deducts 0.25 marks for every incorrect option chosen, while unanswered questions receive zero marks. - Build Unshakable Physical Endurance (PET)
The Physical Efficiency Test (PET) is the first major hurdle, and it requires dedicated field training.
- For Head Constables: Male candidates must run 1.6 Kms in 6 minutes 30 seconds, while female candidates must complete an 800-meter race in 4 minutes.
- For Constables: The endurance test is tougher. Male candidates must finish a 4.8 Kms race in 24 minutes, and female candidates must run 2.4 Kms in 18 minutes. Start a disciplined, daily running routine months in advance to build stamina. Remember, clearing the PET is mandatory to even reach the written exam.
- Maintain Strict Medical and Physical Standards Because you are applying for a uniformed service, your Physical Standard Test (PST) and Detailed Medical Examination (DME) are highly strict. While your height and chest are measured during the PST, your body weight will be heavily scrutinized during the medical exam. Ensure your weight is proportionate to your height and age according to the official female and male average body weight charts (Annexure-VI) provided by the SSB.
