2. Main (Written) Examination

Candidates who qualify the preliminary round (approximately 20 times the number of vacancies) are admitted to the Main Examination. This stage consists of five descriptive papers.

HPPSC ACF: Preparation Tips

  1. Master Himachal GK: Since 30% of the Prelims and a portion of the Personality Test focus on Himachal Pradesh, use specific books on the state’s history and socio-economic surveys.
  2. Strategic Optional Selection: Choose subjects you studied during graduation as the standard is Bachelor’s degree level. Avoid restricted combinations like “Mathematics and Statistics” or “Chemistry and Chemical Engineering”.
  3. Language Proficiency: Don’t ignore Hindi and English. These are compulsory papers where you must score at least 40%. Practice précis writing and essays on current topics.
  4. Current Affairs: Stay updated with national and international events from at least the last 12 months, focusing on environmental and gender issues as highlighted in the syllabus.
  5. Physical Fitness: The walking test (25km/16km) requires endurance. Start regular long-distance walking sessions at least two months before the expected test date.
