Preparation Tips for BPSC ASO
- Master the “Open Book” Strategy (Prelims): While the Prelims allows books, do not rely on them for every answer. Time is limited (135 minutes for 150 questions). Use books only for verifying specific data or formulas you might confuse. Ensure you carry NCERT text books, as guides are banned. Mark important chapters beforehand so you can flip to them quickly.
- Focus on Mental Ability: With 50 questions dedicated to Mental Ability in both Prelims and Mains, this section is a high-scoring area. Practice verbal and non-verbal reasoning daily, specifically focusing on series, analogies, and coding-decoding. Unlike GS, accuracy here can be 100% with practice.
- Brush Up on Matric Level Math & Science: The syllabus explicitly mentions “Matric Level” (10th standard) for Math and Science. Revisit your school NCERT textbooks for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. For Math, focus on arithmetic (percentages, profit/loss, ratios) as these are frequently asked and calculation-intensive.
- Current Affairs & Bihar Special: The General Studies section leans heavily on current events and “India and its neighbors”. Read newspapers daily to cover awards, sports, and scientific progress. Additionally, study Bihar’s specific role in the freedom movement and its political structure, as this is a state-level exam.
- Don’t Ignore Hindi: Paper 1 of the Main exam is General Hindi. Although it is qualifying (you need only 30%), failing this paper means your Paper 2 (GK) won’t even be evaluated. Dedicate some time to Hindi grammar to ensure you clear this hurdle easily.
- Apply Early & Correctly: The One Time Registration (OTR) is mandatory. Ensure you have your documents ready in Digilocker for a smooth application process. Remember, no changes are allowed to Name, Father’s Name, or DOB after OTR, so accuracy is crucial.
