Preparation Tips

  1. Dominate the OMR Prelims Since the Prelims act as a strict filter where only about 10 times the number of vacancies are selected for the next round, focus heavily on accuracy. Because of the 1-mark negative penalty for wrong answers, guessing blindly can ruin your chances. Dedicate significant study time to General Studies, specifically targeting Bihar’s unique geography, history, and its role in the Indian freedom movement.
  2. Master Typing and Word Processing Early Do not wait for the prelims results to practice typing. For the PA, Stenographer, and LDC roles, you must secure a typing speed of 30 words per minute in both Hindi and English. If you are targeting the DEO role, practice relentlessly to achieve a speed of 8000 key depressions per hour. Furthermore, all candidates must pass an MS Office Word Processing test (50 marks Hindi, 50 marks English) lasting 1 hour, so hands-on practice with document formatting is critical.
  3. Perfect Your Shorthand (For PA & Steno) If you are applying for the Personal Assistant or Stenographer posts, shorthand is the ultimate decider. PA candidates must achieve an exceptional Hindi shorthand speed of 100 words per minute during a 5-minute test, followed by 50 minutes for translation. Stenographers need a speed of 80 words per minute over 5 minutes, with 40 minutes to translate. Remember, only a 10% error margin is allowed in shorthand.
  4. Train for Extreme Accuracy In the typing tests, the examination board is notoriously strict. Only a 1.5% margin for error is permissible during the 10-minute typing evaluations. Make sure you practice on a computer daily, prioritizing keystroke accuracy over raw speed, to ensure you don’t get disqualified in the final stages.
