 Introduction

The Forest Guard position in Uttar Pradesh is a great opportunity. The Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSSC) is holding the main written exam for the Forest Guard (Vanrakshak) and Wildlife Guard (Vanya Jeev Rakshak) jobs.

This main exam is the next big step for everyone who passed the PET 2022 score and applied for this job  The written test is scheduled for November 9, 2025.

There are 709 open jobs for people who want to help protect UP’s forests and animals. But getting the job is tough. You have to pass this written test, a very hard physical fitness test, and a medical check-up.

Big change: This year, the exam has a new pattern and syllabus. It now focuses more on knowing about forests, computers, and Uttar Pradesh.

 Eligibility Criteria

  1. PET Score: You must have a valid score from the UPSSSC PET 2022 exam.
  2. Education: You must have passed Intermediate (10+2 / 12th grade) from a recognized board.
  3. Age Limit: You had to be between 18 and 40 years old as of July 1, 2023.

Age Relaxation

The government gives extra time (relaxation) on the maximum age for certain groups from Uttar Pradesh:

  • SC/ST/OBC: 5 extra years
  • Skilled Sportspersons: 5 extra years
  • Persons with Disabilities (PWD): 15 extra years
  • Ex-Servicemen: 3 extra years

 Application Fee and Process

The time to apply for this job is over.

Candidates who were chosen for the main exam had to pay a ₹25 fee online to confirm they would take the test. This fee was the same for everyone (General, OBC, EWS, SC, ST, etc.).

 Salary

These are Group 'C' jobs. The salary is set by the 7th Pay Commission.

  • Pay Band: ₹5,200 – ₹20,200
  • Grade Pay: ₹1,900
  • Pay Level: Level-2
  • In-Hand Salary: After adding all benefits (like Dearness Allowance and House Rent Allowance), your starting salary will be around ₹27,000 to ₹30,000 per month. After deductions (like for your pension plan), you will likely get ₹25,000 to ₹28,000 in your bank account each month.

 Selection Process

  1. PET 2022 Score: First, UPSSSC chose candidates for the main exam based on their PET 2022 scores.
  2. Main Written Exam: This is the 100-mark test on November 9, 2025.
  3. Physical Tests (PST & PET): If you pass the written exam, you will be called for physical tests. They will check your height/chest (PST) and your fitness (PET). You must pass these, but your score here doesn't count towards the final rank.
  4. Document Verification (DV): After passing the physical tests, you'll show all your original documents (like mark sheets and certificates).
  5. Medical Exam: A final check to make sure you are medically fit for the job.

Your final selection is based only on your score in the Main Written Exam.

Key Things to Know:

  • Question Type: All 100 questions will be multiple-choice (MCQs).
  • Marks: 1 question = 1 mark.
  • Total Time: You get 2 hours (120 minutes) for the whole paper.
  • Negative Marking: Yes. For every wrong answer, 1/4th (or 0.25) of a mark will be cut.
  • Exam Location: The test will only be in Lucknow and Jhansi districts.

Part I: Subject-related Knowledge (50 Marks)

This is the biggest section (half the exam).

  • National Parks, Bird Sanctuaries, Tiger Reserves, Elephant Reserves.
  • Reserved Forests and Protected Forests (what's the difference).
  • Eco-Sensitive Zones (ESZ).
  • Ecosystem, Food Chains, Food Webs, Ozone Layer, Waste Management.
  • Climate Change, Carbon Credits, and global agreements (Kyoto, Paris).
  • Soil and Water Conservation.
  • Afforestation (planting trees) and Agro-forestry (farming with trees).
  • Forest laws in India: Forest Conservation Act, Indian Forest Act (1927), Wildlife (Protection) Act (1972).
  • Forest Produce (like wood, honey, herbs).
  • Human-Wildlife conflicts (problems between people and animals).
  • Forest Disasters (especially forest fires).
  • Benefits of forests and their role in the Indian economy.
  • Basic Forest Ecology.
  • Indian Agriculture and crop patterns.

Part II: Basic Math & Biology (15 Marks)

  • Control & Coordination: Human nervous system (brain), plant and animal hormones.
  • Reproduction: How humans, plants (flowers), and single-celled organisms reproduce.
  • Heredity: Basic rules of genetics (Mendel's laws).

Part III: Computer & IT Concepts (15 Marks)

  • History and basic use of Computers, Internet, and World Wide Web (WWW).
  • Hardware (like CPU, RAM, ROM) and Software (OS, applications).
  • Input devices (keyboard, mouse) and Output devices (monitor, printer).
  • What is an IP Address?
  • How to use IT gadgets (smartphones, tablets).
  • Email (how to create and use it).
  • How to use a Printer.
  • Basics of MS-Word (making documents) and MS-Excel (making spreadsheets).
  • Basics of Operating Systems (like Windows), Social Networking, and e-Governance.
  • Digital Payments (like UPI, Net Banking).

  • Awareness of new technology (AI, Big Data, Machine Learning, Internet of Things).

Part IV: General Information about Uttar Pradesh (20 Marks)

This part is only about Uttar Pradesh (UP).

  • History of UP.
  • Art and Culture of UP (dances, songs, festivals).
  • Major buildings and tourist places in UP.
  • Geography of UP (rivers, soil, climate).
  • Natural Resources, Forests, and Wildlife of UP.
  • Economy, Agriculture, and Industries in UP.
  • UP Politics and Administration (Governor, CM, Vidhan Sabha).
  • Current Affairs of UP (new schemes, recent events).
  • Achievements of UP state.

Result

  • Written Exam Result: After the exam, UPSSSC will release an answer key and then the result. This result will be a list of candidates who passed and can go to the next step.
  • Next Step: If you pass the written test, you will be called for the Physical Tests (PST and PET).
  • Final Result: The final list of selected candidates will be made after all steps (DV, Medical) are finished. Your rank is decided only by your written exam score.

 Admit Card

  • Exam City Slip: This slip is already out (released Oct 31, 2025). It tells you which city (Lucknow or Jhansi) you will take the exam in.
  • Final Admit Card: The final admit card will be released in the first week of November 2025. This will have the exact exam center address and time.
  • How to Download: You can get your admit card from the official website (upsssc.gov.in) using your registration number and date of birth.

 Preparation Tips

  1. Focus on Part 1 & 4: These two parts (Subject Knowledge + UP GK) make up 70% of your total marks. Study them the most!
  2. Start Physical Training Now: Don't wait. The 25km (or 10km) run with a 10kg weight is very hard. Start walking and jogging today to build your stamina.
  3. Study UP GK: Don't just read general GK. Get a specific book on "Uttar Pradesh General Knowledge."
  4. Practice Basic Skills: For Math and Biology, review your 10th-grade books. For Computers, practice using MS-Word, Excel, and email.
  5. Use New Mock Tests: Find practice tests that follow the new 100-question pattern. This will help you manage your time.
  6. Watch for Negative Marking: You lose 0.25 marks for every wrong answer. Don't guess if you have no idea.
  7. Know the Laws: Read the main points of the Forest Act (1927) and Wildlife (Protection) Act (1972).
