Introduction

NVS Or The Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) has issued a detailed announcement for the recruitment of various teaching and non-teaching jobs for the year 2025. NVS is an independent government body that works under the Ministry of Education, specifically the School Education and Literacy Department, Government of India. Its main office (Headquarters) is in NOIDA, Uttar Pradesh. It also has eight Regional Offices in Bhopal, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, Patna, Pune, and Shillong. NVS runs 653 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) across India, covering all states except Tamil Nadu.

These schools are fully residential, co-educational schools that teach students up to the Senior Secondary level (Class 12). They are mostly set up in village areas to give high-quality education to talented children from those regions.

Staff members are expected to take on extra duties because students live at the school. These responsibilities include: acting as a House Master, guiding students through remedial and supervisory study sessions, organizing extra-curricular activities, and traveling with students for official purposes. Teachers are also responsible for the general care and safety of the students.

Reservation

Seat reservations are provided following Government of India rules.

Category Reservation Details
SC / ST / OBC (NCL) Reserved seats are listed in the vacancy tables. You must provide valid certificates in the specified format.
EWS (Economically Weaker Section) A 10% reservation is provided for EWS candidates. Your family's total yearly income must be below Rs. 8 Lakh. You cannot apply if your family owns large assets like 5 acres of agricultural land or a flat of 1000 sq. ft. or more.
PwBD (Persons with Benchmark Disabilities) Horizontal reservation is ensured as per the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016. Candidates must meet the prescribed functional requirements.
Ex-Servicemen You get benefits in age limits and exam fees. You must show a certificate or an undertaking to claim these benefits.

Important Note on Fee Waivers: Candidates from SC/ST/PwBD categories and Ex-Servicemen do not have to pay the Examination Fee. However, everyone must pay the Processing Fee of Rs. 500/-.

NVS 2025: Salary

The salary at NVS follows the pay levels set by the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC). In addition to the base pay, selected candidates receive allowances. Also, because you work in a residential school, you get an extra 10% allowance (except for the Assistant Commissioner).

NVS 2025: Selection Process

  1. Two Exams followed by Interview:
    • Applicable for: Assistant Commissioner (Academics), Principal, PGTs, and TGTs.
    • Process: You must pass the Tier-2 exam to be invited for an interview.
    • Weightage: Your final score is calculated with 85% from Tier-2 marks and 15% from the Interview score.
  2. Two Exams followed by Skill Test:
    • Applicable for: Junior Secretariat Assistant (HQ/RO/JNV).
    • Process: You qualify based on the exam but must pass a required Skill Test (like a typing test).
    • Merit: The final list is based on Tier-2 marks, but only if you pass the Skill Test.
  3. Two Exams Only:
    • Applicable for: Lab Attendant and Multi-Tasking Staff.
    • Process: Selection is based only on the marks you get in the Tier-2 exam.

Understanding Tier-1 and Tier-2:

  • Tier-1: This is the first filtering test. About 1 in every 10 candidates will be selected to move to the next stage.
  • Tier-2: This is the main Subject Knowledge Exam used to decide your final position on the merit list.

  • Negative Marking: You will lose one-third (1/3rd) of a mark for every wrong answer.

For Tier-1, the study areas generally include:

Tier 2 Syllabus

1. TGT (Hindi) - हिन्दी

The Hindi syllabus covers the vast landscape of Hindi language, literature, and practical application.

  • हिन्दी साहित्य (Hindi Literature): Detailed study of literature across all periods—आदिकाल, भक्तिकाल (Nirgun, Sagun, Sufi), रीतिकालीन, and आधुनिककालीन (Bhartendu Yug, Dwivedi Yug, Chhayawad, Pragativad, Prayogvad, New Poetry, Contemporary Poetry).
  • गद्य एवं विधाएँ (Prose Forms): Novels, Stories, Dramas, Essays, Travelogues, Memoirs, Biographies, and Reportage.
  • हिन्दी भाषा एवं व्याकरण (Language & Grammar): Development of Hindi, Dialects, Devanagari script, वर्ण विचार (Pronunciation, Spelling, Sandhi), शब्द विचार (Synonyms, Antonyms, Homonyms), Sentence structure, Alankar, Pad Parichay, Muhavare, and the constitutional status of Hindi (Official/Functional Hindi).

2. TGT (English)

The English syllabus tests comprehension, composition skills, grammar, and literary knowledge.

  • Reading & Writing Skills: Reading Comprehension (analyzing unseen texts) , and Writing Ability (reports, articles, speeches, and various formal/informal letters like Letters to the Editor or Complaint Letters).
  • Grammar and Usage: Structures tested include Tenses, Modals, Voice, Subject-Verb Concord, Connectors, Clauses, Parts of Speech, and Punctuation.
  • Literature: Thorough knowledge of works by major writers, including Shakespeare , the Romantic Period (e.g., Shelley, Keats) , 19th & 20th Century American & English Literature , and Modern Indian Writing in English (e.g., R.K. Narayan, Anita Desai).

3. TGT (Mathematics) 

The Mathematics syllabus demands a strong foundation across core analytical and geometrical disciplines.

  • Algebra & Number Theory: Real Numbers (Rational, Irrational, Exponents) , Elementary Number Theory (Euclid’s algorithm, Prime Factorization, Theorems of Fermat/Wilson) , Polynomials, Linear and Quadratic Equations , Matrices (Rank, Inverses, Eigenvalues, Vector Spaces) , Arithmetic Progressions, Inequalities, and Combinatorics.
  • Calculus: Functions (polynomial, trigonometric, logarithmic), Limits and Continuity, Differentiation (Chain, Product, Quotient rules), and Integration.
  • Geometry: Euclidean Geometry (Axioms, Theorems on Triangles, Quadrilaterals, Circles, Constructions), Coordinate Geometry (Distance, Section formula, Area).

4. TGT (Social Science) 

This comprehensive subject covers history, political theory, geography, and economics.

  • History: Focuses on the Contemporary World (Industrial Revolution, Economic Depression), major conflicts (World Wars, UN establishment) , and Indian history (French/Russian Revolutions impact, Revolt of 1857, Freedom Struggle 1885-1947).
  • Geography: Earth motions, Plate Tectonics, Climate (Heat Budget, Pressure Belts, Greenhouse effect) , Oceans, Maps/Scales, Biosphere/Ecology. Indian Geography covers Physical features, Climate, Soils, Population, Resources, Agriculture, Industries, and Disaster Management.

5. TGT (Science) 

The Science paper is divided into Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, often aligned with the NCERT curriculum up to the secondary level.

  • Physics: Motion, Force, Newton’s Laws, Gravitation, Work/Energy/Power, Floatation (Archimedes’ Principle). Current Electricity (Ohm's law, Magnetic Effects, Electromagnetic Induction), Light (Reflection, Refraction, Dispersion, Human Eye) , and Sources of Energy (Fossil, Solar, Nuclear, Renewable).
