Introduction 

The Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSSB) conducts the Primary Teacher (PRT) examination to recruit qualified and skilled teachers for various government schools under the Delhi Government. This exam aims to select candidates capable of providing quality education at the primary level, focusing on the holistic development of young learners. The DSSSB PRT exam is a great opportunity for aspirants seeking a stable and respected teaching career in Delhi’s public education system.

It tests candidates on subjects like General Awareness, General Intelligence, Arithmetical & Numerical Ability, Hindi, English, and Teaching Aptitude.   • Application Last Date:
  • The last date to fill out the form and submit your application is October 16, 2025, until 11:59 PM (midnight).
  • Last Date for Fee Payment:
  • The fee must also be paid by October 16, 2025.
  • Exam Date:
  • The date of the examination has not been announced yet. DSSSB will inform about the exam date later on its official website. You should regularly check the website for updates.

Vacancy Details

DSSSB has announced a total of 1180 vacancies. These vacancies are divided between two government departments in Delhi.

Department-Wise Vacancies

  1. Directorate of Education (DoE): This department has the majority of the vacancies.

  2. New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC):
    • Total Posts: 125

The total 1180 vacancies are divided among different categories as follows:

Eligibility Criteria

Before applying, you need to verify whether you are fulfilling all the eligibility criteria. Your application will be cancelled if you are not eligible. The cut-off date for determining eligibility (such as age and educational qualification) is October 16, 2025.

Educational Qualification

The educational qualifications differ slightly for both departments. You need to meet the qualifications for the department in which you wish to apply.

  • For Directorate of Education (DoE)

You must possess the following qualifications:

  1. Academic and Professional Qualification (You must possess ANY ONE of the following options):
Option 1: Senior Secondary (Class 12th) with a minimum of 50% marks and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (whatever it may be named, such as D.El.Ed., JBT, etc.).
Option 2:  Senior Secondary (Class 12th) with a minimum of 45% marks and a Diploma in Elementary Education of at least 2 years, according to the NCTE Regulations, 2002.
Option 3: Senior Secondary (Class 12th) with a minimum of 50% marks and a 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.).
Option 4: Senior Secondary (Class 12th) with a minimum of 50% marks and a Diploma in Education (Special Education) of at least 2 years.
Option 5: Graduation (any degree such as BA, B.Sc, B.Com) and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.

2. Must-Have Qualifications (You require BOTH of these):

You should have passed the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) Paper 1, which is organized by the CBSE.

You should have passed Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, or English as a subject at the Secondary (Class 10th) level.

  • For New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC)

You should have the following qualifications:

  1. Passed 12th class with minimum 50% marks from a recognized board. (SC/ST candidates are given 5% relaxation in marks).
  2. A 2-year Diploma in Primary Education / Certificate Course in ETE / JBT / DIET / B.El.Ed. from a recognized institute.
  3. You should have passed Hindi as a subject in 10th class.
  4. You should have passed the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET).
  5. Computer knowledge is preferred (it is not necessary, but it is preferable).

Age Limit

The upper age limit for this job is not above 30 years as of October 16, 2025.

Age Relaxation

The upper age limit is relaxed for reserved category candidates. It means they can be above 30 years and apply. The information is as follows:

SC/ST:
  •  5 years relaxation
OBC:
  • 3 years relaxation
PwBD (General/EWS):
  •  10 years relaxation
PwBD (SC/ST):
  • 15 years relaxation
PwBD (OBC):
  • 13 years relaxation
  • Contractual/Guest Teachers: One-time age relaxation is accessible for those employed in the Directorate of Education. The relaxation will be comparable to the amount of time they have worked, to a maximum of 5 years.

Application Fee and Process

Applying for the exam is a completely online process. No other mode like post or by hand will be accepted.

Application Fee

  • The application fee is only ₹100 (One Hundred Rupees).
  • Candidates belonging to women categories and SC, ST, PwBD, and Ex-servicemen categories are excluded from paying any fee.
  • The fee should be paid online only through SBI e-pay. The paid fee will not be refunded.

Application Process

  1. First, you must register on the DSSSB online website, which is known as OARS (Online Application Registration System). The website is https://dsssbonline.nic.in. It is a one-time registration. If you registered earlier for any DSSSB exam, you can use your previous ID and password to login.
  2. Log in with your credentials after registration.
  3. Locate the advertisement for Assistant Teacher (Primary) (Post Code 802/25) and click on 'Apply'. Fill in all your details properly, including your name, father's name, educational qualifications, address, etc.
  4. You will be required to upload your recent photograph and signature. Ensure that they are clear and in the specified format and size.
  5. All details you have entered must be checked carefully before submitting it. After that, you cannot make any corrections or changes to it. So, you should be very careful.
  6. If you are not in the excluded category, pay the ₹100 fee online via SBI e-pay.
  7. On successful payment, submit your application form. A final application form will be created. Get a printout of this form for your future use.

Salary

Pay Scale: ₹35,400 - ₹1,12,400.

Pay Level: This position is at Pay Level 6 of the 7th Pay Commission.

Group: It is a Group 'B', Non-Gazetted, Non-Ministerial post.

You will receive Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), and Transport Allowance (TA). 

Selection Procedure

  1. One Tier Written Examination: You will be required to take a single computer-based written test.
  2. Merit List: Your marks in this test will be used to prepare a merit list. There are minimum qualifying marks you need to secure.
  3. Uploading E-dossier: Shortlisted candidates will be required to upload a scanned copy of their documents (such as mark sheets, certificates, etc.) online. This is referred to as an 'e-dossier'. In this step, you will also be required to provide your preference for the department (DoE or NDMC).
  4. Document Verification: Your documents and eligibility will be verified by the user department (DoE or NDMC) from the e-dossier.
  5. Final Choice: Your department final choice and allotment will be done based on your marks (merit) and the preference given by you.

Exam Pattern

  • The exam will be conducted online (Computer Based Test).
  • You will get 2 hours (120 minutes) to complete the exam.
  • There will be a total of 200 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).
  • The exam is for 200 marks, meaning each question carries 1 mark.
  • There is negative marking. For every wrong answer, 0.25 marks will be deducted.
  • The questions will be in both Hindi and English, except for the language test papers.

Minimum Qualifying Marks

  • General / EWS: 40%
  • OBC (Delhi): 35%
  • SC / ST / PwBD: 30%

These minimum qualifying marks are applicable only for Section B. There are no minimum qualifying marks for Section A. However, the final merit list will be prepared based on the combined marks of both Section A and Section B

Syllabus 

Section A (100 Marks)

  • 1. General Awareness: This section tests your knowledge of current events and everyday observations. 
    • Current Affairs (National and International)
    • History, Geography, Polity, and Constitution of India
    • Sports, Art & Culture
    • Economics and General Science
    • Important national and international organizations and institutions.
  • 2. General Intelligence & Reasoning Ability: This section tests your logical thinking. Topics include:
    • Analogies, Similarities, and Differences
    • Verbal and Figure Classification
    • Arithmetical Number Series and Reasoning
    • Problem Solving and Analysis
    • Blood Relations, Coding-Decoding, and Syllogism.
  • 3. Arithmetical & Numerical Ability: This is the mathematics section. Topics include:
    • Number Systems, Simplification, and Decimals
    • Fractions, LCM, and HCF
    • Ratio & Proportion, Percentage, and Average
    • Profit & Loss, Discount, and Simple & Compound Interest
    • Time & Work, and Time & Distance
    • Data Interpretation (Tables and Graphs).
  • 4. Hindi Language & Comprehension: This section tests your knowledge of the Hindi language.
    • Vocabulary (Shabdavali)
    • Grammar (Vyakaran) - Sangya, Sarvanam, Visheshan, Kriya, etc.
    • Sentence Structure (Vakya Sanrachna)
    • Synonyms (Paryayvachi) and Antonyms (Vilom Shabd)
    • Reading Comprehension (Anuchchhed).
  • 5. English Language & Comprehension: This is similar to the Hindi section but in English.
    • Vocabulary
    • Grammar - Nouns, Pronouns, Verbs, Adjectives, Tenses, etc.
    • Sentence Structure
    • Synonyms and Antonyms
    • Reading Comprehension.

Section B (100 Marks)

This part will consist of MCQs of one mark each based on NCTE curriculum (including teaching methodology) required for the post. 

  • Child Development and Pedagogy: Growth and development, principles of development, theories of learning (Piaget, Kohlberg, Vygotsky), intelligence, and personality.
  • Educational Psychology: Concepts of learning, motivation, classroom management, and individual differences.
  • Teaching-Learning Process: Methods of teaching, lesson planning, teaching aids, and evaluation techniques.
  • Educational Policies and Acts: National Education Policy (NEP), Right to Education (RTE) Act 2009, National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2005.
  • Inclusive Education: Understanding the needs of diverse learners, including children with special needs.
  • School Organization and Leadership.

Result

  1. DSSSB will first put up a draft answer key on its website. You can compare your answers and in case of any error, you can lodge an objection online within the specified time.
  2. Once all the objections are taken into consideration, a final answer key will be put up.
  3. The marks of all the candidates will be declared subsequently. If the examination was conducted in different shifts, your marks may be normalized in order to make it fair.
  4. Final merit list of shortlisted candidates will be put up on the website.

Admit Card

Your admit card is your pass to the exam center. It will be uploaded on the official DSSSB website probably 10-15 days prior to the date of the exam. You will have to download it after logging into your account. The admit card will have crucial information such as your exam date, time, and address of your exam center. Don't forget to take a printout of the admit card and a valid photo ID to the exam center.

Preparation Tips

  1. The initial step is to read the syllabus and the exam pattern carefully.
  2. Prepare a believable study timetable and adhere to it. Provide sufficient time to all the subjects, but provide additional emphasis to Section B.
  3. As Section B has lowest qualifying marks and has 100 marks, it can shatter or make your selection. Read your D.El.Ed./B.El.Ed. textbooks very attentively.
  4. Practicing old question papers will provide you with an idea about the level of the exam and the kind of questions asked.
  5. Keep taking full-length mock tests. This will enhance your speed, accuracy, and time management capabilities.
  6. Read a newspaper every day for the General Awareness section and keep yourself updated on current affairs.
  7. Revise Regularly: Revision is extremely important. Keep revising whatever you have studied so that you do not forget it.
