Syllabus
Integrated CCE (70th & 71st) – Combined Competitive Exam:
Preliminary Exam (Objective): General Studies covering History (India and Bihar), Indian/Bihar Geography, Indian Polity & Governance, Indian Economy & Social Development, General Science (Basic science & technology), Environment/Ecology, Current Affairs; plus Logical Reasoning, Numerical Aptitude, General Mental Ability, and Language Ability (Hindi and/or English comprehension).
Mains Exam (Descriptive): Papers on General Studies (Bihar history/geography, polity, economy, science/tech, environment, current events, etc.) and one Optional subject chosen by the candidate. (Typical sources include NCERT-level history, geography, polity texts and previous BPSC GS papers.)
Secondary/Higher Secondary Teacher (Simultala Residential School):
Subject-specific syllabus corresponding to the teaching subject (e.g. languages, mathematics, sciences, social sciences, etc.) at the secondary/higher-secondary level, as per Bihar School curriculum. In addition, questions on General Teaching Methodology, Educational Pedagogy, and State-specific content (e.g. Bihar history and culture) are often included.
Principal & Vice Principal (Simultala Residential School):
Administrative and educational subjects: School Administration, Educational Management, Pedagogical Theory, Bihar Education Policy, and subject-knowledge at the level of higher secondary. General aptitude, reasoning, and general knowledge (especially Bihar-related) are also tested.
District Statistical Officer / Assistant Director:
Quantitative and Statistical Methods: Probability and statistics, sampling techniques, statistical inference, index numbers, time series, surveys, econometrics basics. Mathematics: Algebra, calculus, optimization, linear algebra (as relevant). Economics: Basic economics concepts, national income accounting, economic development indicators, Indian Economic Issues. General Studies: Current affairs (especially economic and development issues), and Bihar/state economy.
Lower Division Clerk (LDC):
General Hindi and English: Grammar, comprehension, vocabulary. Arithmetic/Numerical Ability: Number systems, ratio-proportion, averages, simple/compound interest, etc. General Studies: Basic current affairs (national and Bihar state), Indian geography (Bihar/geography of India), Indian polity & constitution, everyday science, reasoning (verbal and non-verbal), and Office Procedure/Computer Basics.
Assistant Professor (Physics):
Advanced undergraduate/graduate level physics topics: Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Quantum Mechanics, Thermodynamics and Statistical Physics, Solid State Physics, Optics, Nuclear Physics, and mathematics for physics. Pedagogy or teaching methodology may also be included. (This is analogous to the standard university “Physics” syllabus for faculty recruitment.)
Assistant Curator / Research & Publication Officer / Assistant Director:
Typically related to Museum Studies/Library & Information Science/Publishing/History of Arts depending on the department. Likely topics include Museum Management, Curation Principles, Conservation of Artifacts, Publishing Processes, Archival Science and general subjects like History (especially Bihar heritage), Culture, and Communication Skills.
Lecturer – Mining Engineering (Govt Polytechnic/Women Polytechnic):
Core mining engineering subjects: Rock Mechanics, Mine Ventilation, Mine Surveying, Mineral Processing, Mine Planning and Safety, Mine Environment, Drilling and Blasting, Geology of Minerals. Plus General Engineering Mathematics and Basic Science (Physics/Chemistry related to mining).
Judicial Member (State Consumer Disputes Commission) / President-Member (District Consumer Commission):
Law subjects: Consumer Protection Act and related statutes, Constitutional Law, Administrative Law, Civil and Criminal Procedure (limited to consumer jurisdiction), Evidence Act, general legal principles. General Knowledge: Current legal and consumer affairs, Indian judiciary structure. Essentially a legal aptitude syllabus focused on consumer law.
Mineral Development Officer:
Geology and Mineral Economics: Mineralogy, petrology, geophysics basics. Mining Techniques: Exploration methods, mining methods for various minerals (open-pit, underground). Environment & Regulation: Mining laws, environmental impact of mining, mine rehabilitation. General: Basic civil engineering concepts as related to mines, plus Bihar mineral resources (state geology).
Vice Principal (ITI) and Equivalent:
Technical subjects related to the ITI trade (e.g. civil/mechanical/electrical engineering subjects for respective trades) plus Educational Management and Teaching Methodology. Often includes questions on Industrial Training Institutes’ curriculum, vocational education policies, and basic Management/Administration.
Bihar State Pollution Control Board (BSPCB) Posts:
- Junior Laboratory Assistant: Basic Chemistry, Physics, Biology (environmental lab focus), analytical methods, water/air pollution parameters, and computer basics.
- Law Officer: Environmental laws and regulations (Water Act, Air Act, Environment Protection Act, etc.), legal procedures, RTI Act, and general Bihar government regulations.
- Assistant Environment Officer: Environmental Science, Ecology, Pollution Control Technologies, solid/liquid waste management, industrial pollution treatment, environmental impact assessment.
- Public Relations Officer: Communication, Public Relations, Media Management, general awareness about environmental issues and BSPCB activities.
- System Analyst: Computer Science and IT: programming fundamentals, database management, system analysis & design, networking, and basics of BSPCB’s IT systems, plus general studies.
Motor Vehicle Inspector:
Automotive Engineering: Engine principles, vehicle systems, traffic signs. Motor Vehicles Act: Rules and regulations regarding licensing, permit, vehicle registration, safety norms. Road Safety: Traffic management, environmental norms for vehicles (pollution control). Often includes Engineering Drawing/Practical knowledge of vehicles.
Assistant Environmental Scientist:
Advanced Environmental Science and Ecology: Climate change, renewable energy, biodiversity, pollution (air, water, soil), environmental chemistry, environmental management policies. Statistical/Quantitative Methods for environmental data.
District Sports Officer / Assistant Directors (Sports):
Sports Science and Management: Physiology of sports, sports psychology, training methods, nutrition. Administration: Organization of games/events, sports policies, coaching principles. General Knowledge: History of sports, major tournaments, and Bihar/state sports schemes.
Assistant Section Officer:
General Administration: Office Procedure, General English (comprehension, précis, official correspondence), General Hindi, Mathematics: basic arithmetic, General Studies: Indian Constitution, Indian history, current events, and basic computer knowledge.
Assistant Professors – Medical College & Hospitals (Allopathic):
Medical Subjects: Discipline-specific topics (Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Medicine, Surgery, etc., depending on specialty) at the postgraduate/undergraduate level. Also Teaching Aptitude and Medical Ethics.
Assistant Professors – Ayurvedic Colleges:
Ayurveda Subjects: Classics like Charaka Samhita and Sushruta Samhita content, Sanskrit basics, principles of Ayurveda (Dosha theory, etc.), and allied subjects (Pharmacognosy, Dravyaguna).
Assistant Professor – Government Tibbi (Unani) College:
Unani Medicine: Canonical Unani texts and principles, Ilmul Advia (Pharmacology), Ilmul Amraz (Pathology) of Unani, and Persian/Arabic grammar basics (if relevant).
Assistant Professor – RTBS Homeopathic Medical College:
Homeopathy Subjects: Homeopathic Materia Medica, Organon of Medicine, Homeopathic Repertory, anatomy/physiology basics, and principles of homeopathic practice.
Boiler Inspector:
Mechanical Engineering: Thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics basics as applied to boilers. Boiler Technology: Types of boilers, boiler operations. Boiler Regulation and Safety: Boilers Act provisions, inspection procedures, safety valves, feed water treatment.
HOD/Professor/Associate Professor – Science, Technology & Technical Education Dept.:
These are academic posts; the syllabus generally includes Advanced topics in their specific engineering/science discipline (e.g. for Civil: structural engineering, for Mechanical: thermodynamics, etc.), plus Educational Management for HOD roles.
Assistant Engineer (Civil/Mechanical) – PHED:
Civil Engineering (for Civil AE): Hydraulics, fluid mechanics, surveying, RCC/steel design, water supply and sanitation, environmental engineering, geotechnical engineering.
Mechanical Engineering (for Mechanical AE): Thermodynamics, heat engines, refrigeration & air conditioning, fluid machinery, workshop technology, machine design, and piping.
General: Engineering mathematics, technical drawing, and relevant Bihar Public Health Engineering practices.
Combined Exams for Assistant Engineers:
When the exam is combined for multiple departments (civil, mechanical, etc.), the syllabus includes the above engineering subjects for each branch plus common subjects like General Studies (Basic engineering awareness, environment, and regulations).

Assistant Town Planner:
Urban Planning: City and regional planning principles, zoning laws, building regulations. Assistant Public Sanitary & Waste Management Officer:

Accounts & Finance: Government accounting principles, budgeting, auditing, finance rules. Revenue Administration: Land and revenue laws of Bihar, land records management. Mathematics: Basic arithmetic, statistics for accounting. General: Office procedures, file management, RTI rules.
Assistant Urban Welfare & Registration Officer:
Social Welfare: Urban development and welfare programs, housing, slum redevelopment policies. Municipal Laws: Bihar Urban Local Bodies Acts, birth/death and marriage registration laws. Administration: Public administration principles, government schemes for urban populations.
