3. Vacancy Details
The commission has announced a total of 432 job openings for the post of Stenographer/Steno-Typist. These jobs are spread across many different departments of the Bihar Government. This means that if you get selected, you could be working in any of these departments. The total number of jobs is divided among different groups of people, following the government's reservation rules. This is done to make sure that people from all backgrounds get a fair chance. It's also important to know that these numbers are "provisional," which simply means they might change slightly later on.

4. Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
To apply for the Stenographer post, you must have the following qualifications by the last date of the application.

Age Limit
Your age will be checked as of 1st August 2025. The youngest you can be is 18 years old. The maximum age you can be depends on your category.

Age Relaxation: The government gives some extra years in the upper age limit to people from certain groups to make sure everyone gets a fair chance.
- Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD): They get an extra 10 years on top of the maximum age limit for their category.
- Bihar Government Employees: If you are already a government employee in Bihar and have worked for at least three years, you get an extra 5 years. You can also try for BSSC exams a total of five times.
- Ex-Servicemen: Those who have served in the army, navy, or air force get an extra 3 years, plus the number of years they served in the defense forces. However, their age should not be more than 53 years.

How to Apply
- First, you need to go to the BSSC's online home, which is https://bssc.bihar.gov.in.
- On the main page, look for a link that says something like "Advertisement for Stenographer/Steno-Typist Grade-III Recruitment".
- Click on "Apply Online." You will need to register by giving some basic information like your name, date of birth, email address, and mobile number. After this, you will get a registration number and password.
- Use your new registration details to log in. The next step is to pay the application fee. You can use a Credit Card, Debit Card, Net Banking, or UPI to pay.
- After you have paid the fee, it's time to fill the main application form. You will need to enter details about your education, your address, and other things.
- You will be asked to upload a recent photo of yourself. This has to be a live photo taken using a webcam. You also need to upload a scanned copy of your signature in both Hindi and English.
- Before you hit the final submit button, the website will show you a "Preview" of your form. Read everything one last time to make sure there are no mistakes. If everything looks good, go ahead and submit it.
- After you submit the form, download it and print a copy. It's always good to keep this copy safe for the future.
6. Salary
The Stenographer/Steno-Typist job is a good one when it comes to salary. It is placed in Pay Level-4 of the 7th Pay Commission, which is a system used to decide the salary of government employees.

This pay scale means that your starting basic salary will be ₹25,500. Over the years, with promotions and annual increments, it can go up to ₹81,100. On top of this basic pay, you will also get other benefits called allowances. These include Dearness Allowance (to help with rising costs), House Rent Allowance (to help with rent), and Medical Allowance (for health needs), as per the rules of the Bihar Government.
7. Selection Process
There is no Physical Efficiency Test (PET) or Physical Standard Test (PST). This means you don't have to do any running or meet any height/chest requirements.
- The first step is a written test. The questions will be multiple-choice, meaning you will have to choose the right answer from a few options.
- If you do well in the written test, you will be invited for a skill test. For every one job vacancy, five candidates will be called for this test. Here, your practical skills in stenography and typing will be checked.
- Those who pass the skill test will be called for the final round of checking your original documents and certificates.
- After all the tests are done, the BSSC will create a final list of selected candidates based on how well they performed.
8. Minimum Qualifying Marks
The BSSC has set different minimum marks for different categories. If you score below these marks, you will not be considered for the next stage (the skill test).

- The questions will be in both Hindi and English, so you can choose the language you are comfortable with.
- Important: For every correct answer, you get 4 marks. But for every wrong answer, 1 mark will be taken away.

- About Errors: You are allowed to make some mistakes, but not too many. In stenography, you can have up to 10% errors. In typing, only up to 1.5% errors are allowed.
