Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

The education you need is different for Group C and Group D jobs. You must have your certificate on or before the last day you can apply. Any qualification gained after the closing date will not be counted.

Age Limit (as on January 1, 2025)

How to Apply

Applying for these jobs is easy, but you can only do it online through the official website. You cannot send your application by mail or any other way. Before you start, keep a valid email ID, mobile number, and scanned copies of your photo and signature ready.

  2. Find the link to apply for the "1st SLST (NTS), 2025" and click on it.
  3. Register yourself by providing your basic details like name, email, and mobile number.
  4. Fill out the online form very carefully with your personal information, educational qualifications, and other details. Double-check that everything matches your school certificates.
  5. Upload your scanned photograph and signature in the required format and size.
  6. Pay the application fee online using a debit card, credit card, or net banking.

For Group C (Clerk) Post:

Here are the steps to get selected as a Clerk:

  1. Written Exam: The first and most important step is a written test. Your score here will be very crucial.
  2. Academic Score & Experience: After the test, your school marks and any past work experience in a similar role will also be checked and given some weightage. Higher academic scores can give you an advantage.
  3. Interview & Computer Test: If you pass the written test and have a good overall score, you will be called for an interview. The interview will also include a typing test to check your typing speed and a basic computer test to check your knowledge of programs like MS Word and Excel.

A final list of selected people will be made based on your combined marks from all these steps.

For Group D Post:

Here are the steps to get selected for a Group D post:

  1. Written Exam: The first step is a written test.
  2. Experience: Your past work experience in a relevant field will be considered and given some marks.
  3. Interview: If you clear the written test, you will be called for an interview. The interview will check if you are a suitable person for the job.

A final list will be made based on your performance in the test, your experience, and the interview.

  • Total Time: You get 1 hour (60 minutes) for the exam. This means you have exactly one minute per question, so speed is important.
  • Question Type: All questions will be Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). 
  • Marks: You get 1 mark for each correct answer.
  • Negative Marking: There is no negative marking, which means you won't lose marks for wrong answers. 
  • Language: The questions will be in both English and Bengali, so you can choose the language you are comfortable with.

 Syllabus

General Knowledge (15 Marks)

This part checks your general knowledge about the world around you. You should have a broad understanding of various subjects. Study these topics:

  • History: Important events in Indian history, especially the Indian Freedom Movement, and major events in West Bengal's history.
  • Geography: Geography of India and West Bengal, including rivers, mountains, climate, and major cities.
  • Indian Polity: Basic knowledge about the Indian Constitution, the structure of our government (Parliament, President), and the Panchayati Raj system.
  • Indian Economy: Basic ideas about our country's economy, like planning and major industries.

  • Environment: Basic knowledge about our planet, pollution, climate change, and how to protect our environment.
  • Culture and Literature: Famous books and authors, important festivals, and dance forms of India and West Bengal.

Current Affairs (15 Marks)

This part checks how much you know about recent news and events.

  • National & International News: Important things happening in India and around the world.
  • Sports: News about recent games like the Olympics or Cricket World Cup, famous players, and major tournaments.
  • Awards: Who won important awards like the Nobel Prize, film awards, or sports awards recently.
  • Science and Technology: New discoveries, space missions, and inventions.
  • Important Days: Knowledge of special days and their themes (e.g., World Environment Day).
  • Books and Authors: New books that have been released by famous authors.
  • Government Schemes: New plans and programs started by the central and state governments.

General English (15 Marks)

This part checks your basic English skills. The questions will be at the Class 10 level.

  • Vocabulary: Words with similar meanings (synonyms), opposite meanings (antonyms), and one-word substitutions.
  • Grammar: Basic English grammar rules like tenses, articles, prepositions, parts of speech, and subject-verb agreement.

 Result

  • The results will be posted on the official website. You will be able to check your score by entering your roll number.
  • A list of candidates who are selected for the next stage (the interview and computer test) will be published. This is called the merit list.
  • After all the stages are complete, a final list of selected candidates will be released.
  • There will also be a "waiting list." This means if a selected candidate does not join, a person from the waiting list might get a chance.
  • This final list of selected candidates will be valid for one year.

 Admit Card

Your admit card is super important. You absolutely cannot take the test without it.

  • You can download your admit card from the official website: www.westbengalssc.com.
  • It will be available for download about a week before the exam. The exact date will be announced on the website.
  • The admit card will not be mailed to your house; you have to download it yourself.
  • After you download it, check all your details like your name, photo, and exam center very carefully. If you see a mistake, contact the helpline immediately.
  • It is a good idea to print two or three copies of the admit card and keep one safe.
  • On the day of the exam, you must carry your admit card along with a valid photo ID like an Aadhaar card or Voter ID card.
