Introduction

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has announced an open competitive examination for the recruitment of Constable (Driver) for male candidates in the Delhi Police. Vacancy Details

 

The Delhi Police has announced a total of 737 tentative vacancies for the post of Constable (Driver) - Male. These vacancies are distributed among different categories. It is important to note that 10% of the total vacancies are reserved for Ex-Servicemen (ESM). The number of vacancies is subject to change.

Eligibility Criteria

 

Before applying, candidates must ensure they meet all the eligibility requirements. The eligibility is determined based on educational qualifications and age limit as of the specified dates.

Educational Qualification (as on 15.10.2025)

  • Basic Education: The candidate must have passed 10+2 (Senior Secondary) or its equivalent from a recognized board.
  • Driving Skill: The candidate should be able to drive heavy vehicles with confidence.
  • Driving License: The candidate must possess a valid driving license for Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMV). A learner's license will not be accepted.
  • Technical Knowledge: The candidate should have knowledge of the maintenance of vehicles.

Age Limit (as on 01.07.2025)

  • The candidate must be between 21 and 30 years of age.
  • This means the candidate must have been born not earlier than 2nd July 1995 and not later than 1st July 2004.

Relaxation in the upper age limit is provided for candidates belonging to reserved categories. The details are as follows:

Application Fee and Process

 

Application Fee

  • The application fee is ₹100 (Rupees One Hundred only).
  • Candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Ex-servicemen (ESM) do not have to pay the fee.
  • The fee can be paid online through BHIM UPI, Net Banking, or by using Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, or RuPay Debit cards.

Application Process

The application must be submitted online through the official SSC website: https://ssc.gov.in.

  1. New users must first complete the OTR process on the new SSC website.
  2. After OTR, log in and fill out the online application form for the 'Constable (Driver)-Male in Delhi Police Examination, 2025'.
  3. The application module will require you to capture a live photograph using a webcam or smartphone. Ensure good lighting and a plain background. No caps, masks, or glasses are allowed.
  4. Upload a scanned copy of your signature in JPEG/JPG format (10 to 20 KB).
  5. Pay the application fee online if you are not in an exempted category.
  6. Review your application carefully before final submission. After submitting, take a printout of the application form for your records.

Salary

 

Candidates selected for the post of Constable (Driver) in the Delhi Police will be offered a salary in Pay Level-3.

  • Pay Scale: ₹21,700 – ₹69,100.

Selection Process

 

The selection process for the Delhi Police Constable (Driver) involves four main stages. Candidates must qualify in each stage to move to the next.

  1. Stage I: Computer Based Examination (CBE): An objective-type online test to assess the candidate's knowledge.
  2. Stage II: Physical Endurance and Measurement Test (PE&MT) and Document Verification (DV): This stage tests the physical fitness of the candidates. Document verification is also done at this stage. This will be conducted by Delhi Police.
  3. Stage III: Trade Test (Driving Test): This is a practical test to evaluate the driving skills of the candidate. It is qualifying in nature.
  4. Stage IV: Medical Examination: The final stage where the medical fitness of the recommended candidates is checked by doctors in selected Government hospitals in Delhi.

Exam Pattern

 

Computer Based Examination (CBE)

The online exam will have 100 objective-type questions for a total of 100 marks. The duration of the exam is 90 minutes. There will be a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.

Physical Endurance Test (PE&T)

 

This test is qualifying in nature. Candidates must meet the following standards based on their age:

Physical Measurement Test (PMT)

 

Candidates who qualify the PE&T will undergo the Physical Measurement Test.

  • Height: Minimum 170 cm. (Relaxable by 5 cm for residents of hill areas and ST candidates).
  • Chest: Minimum 81 cm with a minimum expansion of 4 cm (i.e., 81-85 cm). (Relaxable by 5 cm for residents of hill areas and ST candidates).

Trade Test (Driving Test)

 

This test is qualifying in nature and carries a total of 150 marks. Candidates must score the minimum qualifying marks in each part.

Syllabus

 

  • Part A: General Awareness: Questions will cover current events, India and its neighboring countries, Sports, History, Culture, Geography, Indian Economy, General Polity, Indian Constitution, and Scientific Research.
  • Part B: General Intelligence: This section includes non-verbal reasoning questions on analogies, similarities and differences, spatial visualization, visual memory, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, and figural classification.
  • Part C: Numerical Ability: This part will have questions on Number Systems, Whole Numbers, Decimals, Fractions, Percentages, Ratio and Proportion, Averages, Interest, Profit and Loss, Discount, Mensuration, Time and Distance, Ratio and Time, and Time and Work.
  • Part D: Road Sense, Vehicle Maintenance, Traffic Rules/Signals: This section tests knowledge related to driving. Topics include traffic rules, signals, road signs, vehicle maintenance (tyre pressure, battery water level, oils, coolant), and environmental pollution (petrol, diesel, CNG vehicles, noise pollution). The level of the paper will be of Class 10th standard.

Result

The results for different stages will be declared separately.

  • CBE Result: The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) will declare the result of the Computer Based Examination. They will release a list of candidates shortlisted for the PE&MT, which will be about 20 times the number of vacancies.
  • Final Result: After the PE&MT and Trade Test are conducted by the Delhi Police, the final result of provisionally selected candidates will be declared by the SSC on its website. The final merit list will be prepared based on the marks obtained in the Computer Based Examination only, provided the candidate qualifies in all other stages.

Admit Card

The admit card is a mandatory document to enter the examination hall.

  • For Computer Based Examination (CBE): The admit card will be uploaded on the website of the Staff Selection Commission (https://ssc.gov.in).
  • For PE&MT and Trade Test: The admit card for these stages will be issued by the Delhi Police on their official website (https://delhipolice.gov.in). Candidates must regularly check the official websites for updates regarding the admit card. Admit cards will not be sent by post.

Preparation Tips

 

  • Go through the exam pattern and syllabus thoroughly to know what to study.
  • Make a realistic timetable that covers all subjects. Give more time to your weaker areas.
  • Part D has the highest weightage (50 marks). Study traffic rules, road signs, and vehicle maintenance concepts carefully. Read the Motor Vehicles Act for detailed knowledge.
  • Regularly solve previous year papers and mock tests. This will help you manage your time during the exam and understand the question types.
  • For the General Awareness section, read newspapers and magazines daily to stay updated on current affairs.
  • Do not ignore the Physical Endurance Test. Start practicing for the race, long jump, and high jump well in advance. Regular exercise will help you build stamina.
  • If you are not very confident with heavy vehicle driving, get some practical training. Practice forward, reverse, and parking maneuvers.
  • Maintain a positive attitude throughout your preparation. Consistency and hard work are the keys to success.
