What is SSC CHSL 10+2 Tier-I About ?

The SSC CHSL (Combined Higher Secondary Level) Tier-I examination is the first stage of the recruitment process conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) for candidates who have completed their 10+2 (Class 12) education.

It is a National-level exam that aims to select candidates for various clerical and data-related posts in different government departments and ministries. Some of the main posts include:

  • Lower Division Clerk (LDC) / Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA)

  • Postal Assistant (PA) / Sorting Assistant (SA)

  • Data Entry Operator (DEO)

About Tier-I Exam:

The Tier-I is a computer-based online examination (CBT) that tests the candidate’s general intelligence, reasoning, and basic aptitude skills. It includes four sections:

  1. English Language

  2. General Intelligence

  3. Quantitative Aptitude

  4. General Awareness

Each section carries equal marks, and the exam is of 200 marks in total. Candidates who qualify Tier-I move on to the Tier-II  stage.

SSC CHSL Tier-I is the first screening stage to shortlist eligible 12th-pass candidates for clerical and data entry positions in various Central Government offices.

Syllabus

  • English Language: Spot the Error, Fill in the Blanks, Synonyms, Antonyms, Spellings, Idioms & Phrases, One-word substitution, Sentence Improvement, Active/Passive Voice, Direct/Indirect Narration, Jumbled Sentences, Cloze Passage, Comprehension Passage.
  • General Intelligence (Reasoning): Questions on analogies, symbols, trends, space visualization, Venn diagrams, classification, problem-solving, word building, coding-decoding, and number series.
  • Quantitative Aptitude (Math):
    • Number Systems: Whole numbers, decimals, fractions.
    • Arithmetic: Percentages, Ratio, Square roots, Averages, Interest (Simple & Compound), Profit & Loss, Discount, Partnership, Time & distance, Time & work.
    • Algebra: Basic identities, graphs of linear equations.
    • Geometry: Triangles, circles (chords, tangents).
    • Mensuration: Area/Volume of triangles, squares, circles, cylinders, cones, spheres.
    • Trigonometry: Ratios, basic identities, heights & distances.
    • Statistics: Bar graphs, pie charts.
  • General Awareness: News and current events, India and its neighbors (History, Culture, Geography, Economy), General Policy, and Scientific Research..

Admit card

The admit card (or hall ticket) is your most important document. You cannot enter the exam hall without it.

  • SSC will tell you your exam city and date about 10 days before the test.
  • You can download the final admit card 2-3 days before your exam date.

 You cannot download the admit card from the main ssc.gov.in website. You must download it from the website of your SSC Regional Office.

(For example, if you chose Delhi as your exam center, you must go to the SSC Northern Region website. If you choose Mumbai, you go to the Western Region website.).

Steps to download the Admit Card 

  • Visit the official website of the Staff Selection Commission (SSC)

  • On the homepage, click on the “Admit Card” tab at the top menu.

  • You will see links to the SSC Regional Websites (like Northern Region, Southern Region, Western Region, etc.).
     Click on the link of the region you applied from.

  • On the regional website, find and click on the link that says —
    “Download Admit Card for CHSL (10+2) Tier-I Examination 2025”

  • You’ll be asked to enter your Registration ID, Roll Number, or Name, along with your Date of Birth.

  • After entering the details, click on the “Submit” or “Search” button.

  • Your SSC CHSL Tier-I Admit Card will appear on the screen.

  • Check all details carefully, such as your name, exam date, center, and shift timing.

  • Finally, click on “Download” and take a printout of the admit card — you must carry this hard copy to the exam center along with a valid photo ID.
