SSC CGL Inspector (Preventive Officer) in CBIC : Eligibility 

To be eligible means you must have the required qualification and age to apply for the job. 

Educational Qualification

To apply for the Inspector (Preventive Officer) post, you must have a Bachelor's Degree from a recognized university. This is also called a graduation degree. It can be in any subject like Arts, Science, Commerce, or Engineering.

If you are in the final year of your graduation and are waiting for your results, you can still apply. However, you must have your degree or your final result before August 1, 2025. You will have to show the proof of your degree when the government asks for it.

Age Limit

For the Inspector (Preventive Officer) post, your age should be between 18 and 30 years.

This means you must have been born not earlier than August 2, 1995, and not later than August 1, 2007.

The government gives some relaxation in the upper age limit for people from reserved categories. This means they can be a little older than 30 and still apply. The age relaxation is:

SSC CGL Inspector (Preventive Officer) in CBIC : Application Fee 

Application Fee

You have to pay a small fee to apply for the exam. The fee is ₹100 (One Hundred Rupees).

However, some people do not have to pay this fee. They are:

  • All Women candidates
  • Candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC)
  • Candidates belonging to Scheduled Tribes (ST)
  • Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD)
  • Ex-Servicemen (ESM)

The fee has to be paid online using UPI, Net Banking, or Debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, RuPay).

Application Process

The application must be submitted online on the new SSC website: https://ssc.gov.in. The process has two main parts:

Part 1: One-Time Registration (OTR)

  • If you are applying for the first time on the new website, you have to do a One-Time Registration.
  • You will need a mobile number, email ID, Aadhaar card, and your 10th-class certificate details.
  • You have to fill in your personal details like name, father's name, mother's name, and date of birth exactly as they are in your 10th-class certificate.
  • After you fill in the details, you will get a Registration Number and a password on your mobile and email.

Part 2: Filling the Application Form

  • Log in to the SSC website with your Registration Number and password.
  • Click on the 'Apply' link for the "Combined Graduate Level Examination, 2025".
  • Most of your details will be filled automatically from your OTR.
  • You will have to provide details about your education, choose your exam centers (you can choose three), and upload your photo and signature.
  • For the photo, you don't need an old one. The website will ask you to capture a live photo using your computer's or phone's camera. Your face should be clear, with a plain background, and you should not wear a cap or glasses.
  • Your signature should be scanned and uploaded in the correct size.
  • After filling the form, check all details carefully in the 'Preview' option.
  • Finally, pay the fee if it applies to you and submit the form.

SSC CGL Inspector (Preventive Officer) in CBIC : Salary

Inspector (Preventive Officer) in CBIC post is a Group 'B' job. The salary is based on Pay Level-7.

  • Pay Scale: ₹44,900 to ₹1,42,400 per month.
  • In addition to this basic salary, you will also get extra money like Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), and Transport Allowance (TA).

SSC CGL Inspector (Preventive Officer) in CBIC :  Selection Process

There are two main steps (Tiers) to get selected.

  1. Tier-I Exam: This is a computer-based exam. It is only for selecting candidates for the next stage. Its marks are not used for the final selection.
  2. Tier-II Exam: This is the main computer-based exam. Your final selection depends on your marks in this exam.
  3. Document Verification (DV): If you are selected, the Enforcement Directorate will check all your original documents.
  4. Medical Examination: You will also have a medical test to check if you are fit for the job.

  • Time: 1 hour (80 minutes for candidates who need a scribe)

Important points for Tier-II:

  • Negative Marking: For every wrong answer, 1 mark will be cut in Section-I, II, and III.
  • It is compulsory to qualify in all sections of Paper-I.

Tier-I Syllabus

  • General Intelligence & Reasoning: This tests your thinking ability. It includes questions on similarities, differences, problem-solving, coding-decoding, number series, and patterns.
  • General Awareness: This checks your knowledge of the world around you. It includes questions on History, Culture, Geography, Economy, General Policy, and Scientific Research of India and its neighbors. It also covers current events.
  • Quantitative Aptitude (Maths): This tests your calculation skills. It includes topics like whole numbers, decimals, fractions, percentages, ratio, averages, profit & loss, time & distance, basic algebra, geometry, and trigonometry. The level of questions will be of 10th standard.
  • English Comprehension: This tests your understanding of the English language. It includes questions on grammar, vocabulary, and reading comprehension.

Tier-II Syllabus

  • Mathematical Abilities: This is similar to the Tier-I maths syllabus but with more advanced topics in Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Mensuration, Trigonometry, and Statistics & Probability.
  • Reasoning & General Intelligence: This is also similar to the Tier-I reasoning syllabus but the questions might be a little tougher.
  • English Language & Comprehension: This includes vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms, idioms, one-word substitution, and comprehension passages.
  • General Awareness: The syllabus is the same as Tier-I, focusing on current events and general knowledge.
  • Computer Knowledge Test: This includes basics of computers, software like MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), working with the internet and emails, and basics of networking and cyber security.

Result

SSC declares the result on its official website.

  • First, the result for the Tier-I exam is declared. A list of candidates who have passed and can appear for the Tier-II exam is published.
  • After the Tier-II exam, the final result is prepared.
  • The final merit list is made based on the marks you score in the Tier-II examination only.
  • If two or more candidates get the same marks, there is a method to break the tie. The candidate who is older in age is given a higher rank.
  • After the final result, the SSC recommends the selected candidates to the user departments for appointment.

Admit Card

The admit card is like your ticket to the examination hall. Without it, you cannot enter the exam center.

  • The admit card will be available for download on the website of your SSC Regional Office.
  • You can download it about 2-3 days before the date of the examination.
  • You must take a printout of the admit card and bring it to the exam hall.
  • Along with the admit card, you also need to bring an original photo ID proof like an Aadhaar Card, Voter ID Card, Driving License, or PAN Card. The date of birth on your ID card must be the same as on your admit card.
  • You should also carry two recent passport-size color photographs.

Preparation Tips

Here are some simple tips:

  • First, understand the syllabus and exam pattern very well.
  • Create a study plan and give equal time to all subjects. Stick to your timetable.
  • For General Awareness and English, read an English newspaper every day. This will improve your knowledge and vocabulary.
  • Maths and Reasoning need a lot of practice. Solve as many questions as you can every day.
  • Study from standard and good quality books recommended for the CGL exam.
  • Practice with previous years' question papers. This will help you understand the type of questions asked and manage your time well.
  • Regularly take mock tests. This will show you where you are making mistakes and help you improve your speed and accuracy.
  • Eat healthy food, sleep well, and do some exercise. A healthy mind lives in a healthy body.
