SSC CGL Assistant Section Officer in IB : Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the post of ASO in the Intelligence Bureau, candidates must strictly adhere to the eligibility criteria concerning nationality, educational qualifications, and age limit as of the prescribed dates.
Nationality
You must be one of the following:
- A citizen of India, or
- A citizen of Nepal, or
- A citizen of Bhutan, or
- A person of Indian origin who has moved from certain countries to live in India permanently.
If you belong to categories 2, 3, or 4, you will need a special eligibility certificate from the Government of India.
Educational Qualification
For the Assistant Section Officer post, the essential educational requirement is a Bachelor's Degree from a recognized University or equivalent.
An important provision is made for students in their final year of graduation. Candidates who have appeared for their final year examination are also eligible to apply, but they must possess the essential qualification on or before the cut-off date of August.
Age Limit

SSC CGL Assistant Section Officer In IB :Application Fee and Process
The application process for the SSC CGL exam is entirely online. Candidates must exercise caution while filling out the form to ensure all details are accurate.
Application Fee
- The fee payable is ₹100 (Rupees one hundred only).
- Exemption: Women candidates and candidates belonging to SC, ST, PwBD, and Ex-Servicemen (ESM) eligible for reservation are exempted from fee payment.
- Payment Mode: The fee must be paid online through BHIM UPI, Net Banking, or by using Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, or RuPay Debit cards.
How to Apply ?
- One-Time Registration (OTR): First, you need to make an account on the new SSC website: https://ssc.gov.in. If you had an account on the old website (ssc.nic.in), it will not work here. You have to make a new one. This registration needs your basic personal information.
- Fill the Application Form: After you have registered, log in to your account. Go to the 'Apply' section and find the 'Combined Graduate Level Examination. Click on it to start your application. Most of your details will be automatically filled from your registration profile.
- Take a Live Photo: This is a new rule. You don't need to upload an old photo. The website will ask you to take a live photo using your computer's webcam or your smartphone's camera. Make sure you are in a place with good light, have a plain background behind you, and your face is clearly visible. Do not wear a cap, mask, or glasses.
- Upload Your Signature: You need to scan your signature and save it as a JPEG file. The file size should be between 10 KB and 20 KB.
- Choose Exam Centres: You have to choose three cities where you would prefer to take the exam. List them in order of your preference.
- Final Check and Submission: Before you click the final 'Submit' button, use the 'Preview' option to check all the details you have filled in. Make sure everything is correct. After submission, your application is considered provisionally accepted.
- Correcting the Application Form: If you realize you made a mistake after submitting, don't worry. The SSC will give you a 3-day window. However, you will have to pay a correction charge of ₹200 for the first time and ₹500 if you need to make corrections a second time.
SSC CGL Assistant Section Officer In IB : Salary
The Assistant Section Officer in the Intelligence Bureau is a Pay Level-7 job according to the 7th Central Pay Commission. This means the pay scale is from ₹44,900 to ₹1,42,400.
Your starting basic pay will be ₹44,900 per month. On top of this basic pay, you will get several other payments called allowances. These include:
- Dearness Allowance (DA): This is extra money to help with the rising cost of living.
- House Rent Allowance (HRA): This is money to help you pay the rent for your house.
- Transport Allowance (TA): This is money for your daily travel expenses to and from the office.
- Special Security Allowance (SSA): This is a special and significant extra allowance given to employees of intelligence agencies like the IB.
SSC CGL Assistant Section Officer In IB : Selection Process
To get selected as an ASO in IB, you have to go through a few stages. This process is designed to test your knowledge and skills. The selection happens in two main parts called Tiers.
- Tier-I Examination: This is the first test, and it is conducted on a computer. It works like a screening test to filter out candidates for the next stage.
- Tier-II Examination: This is the main exam, also conducted on a computer. The final list of selected candidates is made based only on the marks you get in this Tier-II exam.
- Giving Post Preference: Before the final result is out, all candidates who pass the exam will be asked to fill an online form to list which jobs and departments they prefer, in order.
- Document Verification (DV): After the final result is declared, the Intelligence Bureau will call you to check all your original documents and certificates to make sure they are genuine.
- Medical Examination: The last step is a medical check-up conducted by the IB to ensure you are physically fit for the job.
