Introduction 

The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) has finally released the notification for the much-awaited recruitment of Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC) posts for the year 2025. The notification is very important because it offers jobs for both Graduate level and Undergraduate level candidates. These posts are available across different zones and production units of Indian Railways.The RRB NTPC recruitment is one of the biggest opportunities for candidates in India who want to work in the Railways. Railway jobs are known for their job security, attractive salary, allowances, and respect in society.

Important Dates

The RRB has given two different timelines for Graduate Posts and Undergraduate Posts. You must apply within the correct dates; late applications will not be accepted.

Vacancy Details

This year, the Railway Recruitment Board has announced a total of 8,850 vacancies. These are divided between Graduate-level posts and Undergraduate-level posts.

These posts are spread across important departments like Traffic, Accounts, Commercial, and General categories.

Eligibility Criteria

You must carefully check whether you are eligible before applying.

Educational Qualification:

  • Graduate Level Posts: Must have a graduation degree from a recognized university.
  • Undergraduate Level Posts: Must have passed Class 12 or an equivalent exam.

Age Limit (as on 01.01.2026):

  • Graduate Posts: 18 to 33 years
  • Undergraduate Posts: 18 to 30 years

Note: Reserved category candidates will get age relaxation as per government rules. Candidates also need to meet the medical fitness standards for the post they are applying for.

Application Fee

  • General / OBC / EWS: ₹500
  • SC / ST / PWD / Women / Ex-Servicemen / Transgender / Minorities / Economically Backward Classes: ₹250

Refund Policy: The application fee is refundable for candidates who appear for the first stage CBT exam (after deducting bank charges).

Refund Amount (On Appearing For CBT)

  • Gen/ OBC/ EWS : ₹400/-
  • SC/ ST/ EBC/ Female/ Transgender : ₹250/-

Application Process

The application process is completely online. Candidates cannot apply offline. Follow these steps:

  1. Go to the regional RRB official website.
  2. Register yourself with your details like name, email ID, and phone number.
  3. Fill the application form carefully with correct details like personal info, education, and post preference.
  4. Upload scanned copies of required documents – photo, signature, caste certificate (if applicable).
  5. Pay the application fee online using a Debit Card, Credit Card, Net Banking, Mobile Wallets, or UPI.
  6. Submit the form and take a printout of the final application confirmation.

Salary Structure

The salary in RRB NTPC is as per 7th Pay Commission. It depends on the post and level:

Graduate Posts (Level 5 & 6) ₹29,200 – ₹35,400
Undergraduate Posts (Level 2 & 3) ₹19,900 – ₹21,700

Apart from basic salary, Railway employees also get:

  • Dearness Allowance (DA)
  • House Rent Allowance (HRA)
  • Transport Allowance (TA)
  • Pension and job security benefits

For example, a Station Master starts with a basic pay of ₹35,400 which increases with allowances.

Selection Process

The RRB NTPC exam is conducted in multiple stages. Candidates must clear all stages for final selection:

  1. Computer Based Test (CBT 1)
  2. Computer Based Test (CBT 2)
  3. Skill Test – Typing Skill Test or Computer Based Aptitude Test (for some posts)
  4. Document Verification
  5. Medical Examination

Only after clearing all stages will you get the Railway job.

Exam Pattern

The exam has been structured to test a candidate’s basic knowledge, reasoning, and aptitude skills.

CBT 1
  • Number of Questions: 100
  • Marks: 100
  • Duration: 90 minutes
  • Subjects: Mathematics, General Awareness, General Intelligence & Reasoning
CBT 2
  • Number of Questions: 120
  • Marks: 120
  • Duration: 90 minutes
  • Subjects: Same as CBT 1, but deeper and more detailed
Skill Test (Only for few posts)
  • Typing Skill Test for Clerk posts
  • CBAT (Computer Based Aptitude Test) for Station Master/Traffic posts

Note: There is negative marking of 1/3rd marks for each wrong answer.

Result

RRB will announce the results of each stage (CBT 1, CBT 2, skill test) separately on official websites.

  • Candidates who qualify CBT 1 will be allowed to appear in CBT 2.
  • After CBT 2, shortlisted candidates will give skill tests/document verification.
  • The final merit list will be based on performance in exams + verification process.

Admit Card

The Railway Recruitment Board will release admit cards a few days before the exam.

  • Download the admit card from your regional RRB official website.
  • Login with your registration ID and password.
  • The admit card contains exam date, time, exam center, and important instructions.

Without the admit card, you cannot enter the examination hall.
