Avalanche

Avalanche- a mass of snow, ice, and rocks falling rapidly down a mountainside.

Blizzard- a very bad storm with strong winds and a lot of snow

Glacier- a mass of ice that moves slowly down a valley

Typhoon- a violent tropical storm with very strong winds

Aborigines

Aborigines- The original natives of a country

Savages- extremely wild or violent

Tribal- relating to a tribe

Cannibals- people who eats other people

Tyrant- A cruel and oppressive ruler

Traitor- a person who is not loyal to his/her country, friends, etc.

Aristocrat- a member of the highest social class, often with a special title

Democrat- a person who believes in and supports democracy

Astronomy

Astronomy- Science which deals with celestial objects and space

Geography- the study of the world's surface, physical qualities, climate, population, products, etc.

Astrology- the study of the positions and movements of the stars and planets and the way that some people believe they affect people and events

Geology- the study of rocks, and of the way they are formed

To hold good- to remain valid.

E.g- The advice that my father gave me a few years ago still holds good today.

It's all Greek to me- I cannot understand anything.

E.g.- My uncle and my father were discussing politics, but it was all greek to me.

A square deal- A fair and honest deal

E.g.- Mr Ramesh is an honest man as he always does a square deal in each of his business transactions.

To have a selfish motive in doing something

To have an axe to grind- To have a selfish motive in doing something

E.g.- I think Neha had an axe to grind that is why she voted against me in the referendum.

Rebuke- to speak angrily to somebody because he/she has done something wrong

Scold- to speak angrily to somebody because he/she has done something bad or wrong

Commend- to say officially that somebody/something is very good

Recall- to remember something a fact, event, action, etc. from the past

Coerce- to force somebody to do something

Polished - a refined, cultured, or elegant person

Cultured- well educated, showing a good knowledge of art, music, literature, etc.

Crude- simple and basic, without much detail, skill, etc.

Paramount- most important thing

Boring- not at all interesting, dull
