The Three-Stage Selection Process for Sub Inspector

The selection of candidates is a rigorous, three-tiered process designed to evaluate their academic knowledge, physical endurance, and personal aptitude for a career as a Sub Inspector.

Stage 1: Written Competitive Examination

This is the first and most critical filtering stage. The examination will be conducted in an offline (OMR-based) or online mode, as decided by the commission.

Paper Subject Maximum Marks Duration
Paper I General Hindi 200 2 hours
Paper II General Knowledge & General Science 200 2 hours
  • Qualifying Criteria: To pass the written exam, a candidate must secure a minimum of 36% marks in each paper and 40% marks in the aggregate. For candidates belonging to SC and ST categories, a relaxation of up to 5 marks will be provided in each paper and in the aggregate score.
  • OMR Sheet Instructions: Each question will have five options (1, 2, 3, 4, 5). Candidates must darken one circle for their answer. It is mandatory to mark an option for every question. If a question is not attempted, the circle for option '5' must be darkened. If none of the five circles are darkened, one-third (1/3) of the marks for that question will be deducted as a penalty. A candidate who fails to darken any of the five circles in more than 10% of the total questions shall be disqualified. An extra 10 minutes will be provided at the end of the exam for this purpose.

Stage 2: Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

Candidates who are declared successful in the written examination, up to 20 times the number of vacancies, will be required to appear for the Physical Efficiency Test.

  • The PET will carry a total of 100 marks.
  • It is a qualifying test, and candidates must secure a minimum of 50% marks to be eligible for the next stage.
  • The test will be conducted by a board headed by a senior police official and is designed to be vigorous to accurately assess the physical suitability of the candidates for demanding duties as a Sub Inspector.

Stage 3: Interview

Candidates who clear both the written test and the PET will be called for the final stage, which consists of an aptitude test and an interview. The number of candidates called for this stage will be restricted to three times the number of vacancies.

  • The aptitude test and interview together carry 50 marks.
  • The interview board will award marks based on a candidate's suitability for the post, considering factors like personality, address, tact, behaviour, specialized training, aptitude, judgment, leadership qualities, and knowledge of Rajasthani culture.

Weightage: Special consideration or weightage may be given to candidates who hold a Degree or Diploma in Criminology, possess an N.C.C. 'C' Certificate, or have studied Police Administration as one of the papers for their degree examination.

Final Recommendation

The commission will recommend candidates for appointment based on the final merit list. This list is prepared by adding the marks obtained in the written test and the interview.

  • Minimum Aggregate Marks: To be recommended, a general category candidate must secure at least 45% marks in the aggregate (Written + Interview). For reserved categories (BC, MBC, SC, ST, EWS) and women candidates, the minimum aggregate required is 40%.

Reservation and Documentation

Reservation will be applicable as per the rules of the Rajasthan government. Candidates claiming benefits under any reserved category must provide valid and timely documentation.

  • Caste/Category Certificates: Certificates for SC, ST, OBC, MBC, and EWS categories must be issued on or before the last date of application. If a certificate is issued after the deadline, the candidate must submit an affidavit stating that they were eligible for that category on the application's closing date.
  • Married Women: Married women applying under reserved categories (except EWS) must submit a caste certificate issued based on their father's name, residence, and income. Certificates based on the husband's details will not be accepted. For EWS, the certificate must be based on the combined family income of the father and husband.
  • Widow/Divorced Category: A woman applying as a widow must submit her husband's death certificate. A woman applying as divorced (विच्छिन्न विवाह) must submit the court's decree of divorce, which must have been issued on or before the final date of application.
  • Ex-Servicemen: Ex-servicemen must be residents of Rajasthan to claim reservation benefits. They must provide a No Objection Certificate (NOC) if they are still in service and due to retire within one year.

The Rajasthan Police Sub Inspector recruitment of 2025 is a structured and competitive process that seeks to identify individuals with the right blend of intellectual ability, physical fitness, and personal integrity.
