Overview of the Recruitment

The RRB NTPC (Non-Technical Popular Categories) Graduate Exam is a national-level recruitment test conducted by the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) to fill graduate-level posts in Indian Railways. These posts include Commercial Apprentice, Traffic Assistant, Goods Guard, Senior Clerk, Station Master, and more. It offers a stable government career with attractive pay, benefits, and growth opportunities. Every year, lakhs of candidates appear for this exam due to its wide range of job roles and high job security.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

  • Candidates must possess a Degree from a recognized University or its equivalent.
  • The essential qualification must be met on or before the new closing date for online application submission, which is November 27, 2025.
  • For posts like Junior Accounts Assistant Cum Typist and Senior Clerk Cum Typist, a graduation degree is required, and typing proficiency in English/Hindi on a computer is essential.

Age Limit

  • The minimum age limit is 18 years, and the maximum is 33 years as on January 1, 2026.
  • Age relaxations are applicable for reserved categories (SC/ST, OBC-NCL) and other specific groups (Ex-Servicemen, PwBD, etc.) as per the Government of India rules.

Examination Pattern

The selection process is structured in multiple stages, all of which are critical for final selection.

Stage 1: CBT-1 (Common for all Posts)

 

  • Mode: Computer Based Test (CBT)
  • Duration: 90 minutes (120 minutes for eligible PwBD candidates with a scribe)
  • Total Questions: 100
  • Negative Marking: 1/3rd mark deduction for every wrong answer.
  • Qualifying Marks: UR/EWS-40%, OBC(NCL)-30%, SC-30%, ST-25%.
    • Note: CBT-1 is purely for screening/shortlisting candidates for CBT-2.

  • Mode: Computer Based Test (CBT)
  • Duration: 90 minutes (120 minutes for eligible PwBD candidates with a scribe)

  • Qualifying Marks: UR/EWS-40%, OBC(NCL)-30%, SC-30%, ST-25%
    • Note: Marks from CBT-2 are used for shortlisting to the next stage (Skill Test/Document Verification).

Skill Test (Post-specific)

  • Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT): Only for Station Master and Traffic Assistant. This is a mandatory qualifying test where candidates must secure a minimum T-Score of 42 in each test battery, with no relaxation for any community/category. The final merit for these posts will be based on 70% weightage for CBT-2 marks and 30% for CBAT marks.
  • Computer Based Typing Skill Test (CBTST): Only for Junior Accounts Assistant Cum Typist and Senior Clerk Cum Typist. This test is qualifying in nature, requiring a typing speed of 30 WPM in English or 25 WPM in Hindi on a Personal Computer.

Application Process

The application must be submitted ONLINE ONLY through the official RRB websites. 

Step 1: Create an Account

  1. Visit the official website of your chosen Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) or the centralized application portal at rrbapply.gov.in.
  2. Click on the link for “Apply >> Create Account” or the link for CEN 06/2025.
  3. For new users: Enter your basic personal details including your name, mobile number, and a valid personal Email ID.
  4. Important: The details entered in the ‘Create an Account’ form, including your mobile number and Email ID, cannot be modified later under any circumstances. 
  5. An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number and email ID for verification.

Step 2: Fill the Application Form 

  1. Log in using your newly created credentials.
  2. Fill out the detailed application form which is generally divided into two parts.
  3. In Part I, fill in your complete educational qualifications, community/category (UR/OBC/SC/ST/EWS), gender, religion, and other essential eligibility details.
  4. After completing Part I, you will be directed to the Fee Payment page.

Step 3: Application Fee Payment

The examination fee varies by category, with a partial refund available for all candidates who appear in the 1st Stage CBT:

  • Pay the applicable fee online using Net Banking, Debit/Credit Card, or UPI.

Step 4: Fill the Application Form (Part II)

  1. After successful fee payment, you will be redirected to the second part of the application.
  2. Fill in your remaining details, including your preference for posts and the Railway Zone/Production Unit within your chosen RRB.

Step 5: Upload Documents

  1. Live Photo Capturing: The application module will prompt you to capture a live photograph. You must follow the instructions carefully (neutral expression, non-white clothing, no cap/glasses, etc.). Do not upload a picture of a printed photo; a live capture is mandatory.
  2. Signature: Upload a scanned copy of your signature written in running handwriting using a black ink pen on white paper (File size: 30 KB to 49 KB). Block or CAPITAL letters are grounds for rejection.
  3. SC/ST Certificate: Candidates requesting a Free Train Travel Pass must upload their SC/ST Certificate in PDF format (less than 400 KB).

Step 6: Final Submission and Printout

  1. Review all the information entered, especially the crucial details like personal data and zone/post preferences, as changes are restricted and costly after the final submission and before the modification window opens.
  2. Submit the application.
  3. Download and print the final confirmation page for your records.
