For the year 2025, the Intelligence Bureau has announced a total of 362 vacancies for the post of Multi-Tasking Staff (General).These 362 seats are not located in a single office. Instead, they are distributed among various Subsidiary Intelligence Bureaux (SIBs) in different states across India. The government follows strict rules regarding reservations for different social categories. This includes reservations for Other Backward Classes (OBC), Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), Ex-Servicemen (ESM), and Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD).

Crucial Information on Allocation: The selection of candidates is purely based on merit. The vacancies are allocated to the specific SIB that the candidate applies to. During the application process, you will be asked to select your SIB. Please choose this carefully. Once you have selected an SIB, you cannot change it later. It is mandatory to apply to an SIB where you hold a domicile (residence) certificate.
However, there is an exception for Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD) and Ex-servicemen. Vacancies for these two specific groups are allocated on a centralized basis. This means they can compete against reserved vacancies across all SIBs, rather than being restricted to just one region’s quota.

Educational Qualification
The academic requirement for this post is:

Applying for the IB MTS exam involves paying a fee. This fee is split into two parts: an Examination Fee and Recruitment Processing Charges.

How to Apply
Applications are accepted ONLINE only. You can apply through the official website (www.mha.gov.in) or the NCS portal (www.ncs.gov.in).
Step 1: Registration First, you need to register on the portal. You will need a valid email ID and mobile number. Once you enter your basic details, the system will generate a Login ID (Application Sequence Number) and a password. These details will be sent to your registered email address.
Step 2: Completing the Form Log in using the ID and password sent to your email. You will then fill in your Personal Details and Qualification Details.
Step 3: Uploading Documents You need to upload digital copies of your photo and signature.
- Photograph: It must be a colored photo, sized 35mm x 45mm. It should not be older than 12 weeks. The background should be light, and your face must cover 70-80% of the photo area. The file size should be between 100-200 KB in jpg/jpeg format.
- Signature: Sign on a white paper with black ink. Scan it and ensure the file size is between 80-150 KB in jpg/jpeg format.
Step 4: Payment After filling the form, you will be redirected to the SBI payment gateway. You can pay using Debit/Credit Cards, Net Banking, UPI, or by generating a Challan. Remember, fees once paid are non-refundable.
Step 5: Confirmation Once submitted, print a copy of the application form. You will need this for future reference.
Intelligence Bureau (IB) MTS Vacancy: Salary and Benefits
One of the main attractions of this post is the salary structure. The MTS (General) post falls under Level-1 of the Pay Matrix.
- Basic Pay Scale: The pay ranges from ₹ 18,000 to ₹ 56,900.
- Standard Allowances: As a Central Government employee, you are entitled to various admissible allowances (like Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, etc.).

- Notice that General Awareness carries 40 marks, which is double the weightage of other sections. Prioritize current affairs, static GK, and national security news in your preparation plan.
- Tier-II requires you to write a paragraph in 150 words. Practice writing concise, coherent, and grammatically correct paragraphs on trending topics. Avoid fluff; precision is key here.
- You have only 60 minutes for 100 questions in Tier-I. This means you have less than 40 seconds per question. Practice skipping difficult questions initially to ensure you attempt all easy ones first.
- With a deduction of ¼ mark for every wrong answer, avoid blind guessing. If you can eliminate two options, take a calculated risk; otherwise, leave it blank.
- English is crucial for both Tier-I (20 marks) and Tier-II (50 marks). Strengthen your grammar rules (tenses, prepositions) and build a robust vocabulary (synonyms, antonyms) to score high in both stages.
- Regularly solve full-length mock tests to simulate the exam pressure. Analyze your errors after each test to identify weak areas.
- Although there is no physical efficiency test mentioned, a medical examination is mandatory. Maintain good health and a clean record for the antecedent verification process.
Intelligence Bureau (IB) MTS Vacancy : Admit Card and Communication
The Intelligence Bureau has modernized its communication. They do not send hard copies of Admit Cards by post.
All Admit Cards (Call Letters) for both Tier-I and Tier-II exams will be sent to you via your registered email ID. It is mandatory for candidates to have a valid email ID and keep it active throughout the recruitment process. Information regarding the date, time, and specific center of the exam will be communicated exclusively through these emails.
Examination Centres
When you fill out the application form, you will be given a list of cities where the exam is conducted. This list includes locations like Port Blair, Delhi, various cities in Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chandigarh, and many others across all states.
You must select five (5) options for your Exam Centre preferences. The Intelligence Bureau will try to accommodate you in one of these five choices. However, remember that even if you take the exam in a different city, your candidature is considered valid only against the vacancies of the SIB you applied to.

The final result is based on the merit list from Tier-I scores, provided you passed Tier-II. A waiting list will also be created to fill vacancies if selected candidates drop out.
Tie-Breaking Rule: If two candidates score the exact same marks in Tier-I, the IB uses the following criteria:
- Date of Birth: The older candidate is placed higher on the merit list.
- Alphabetical Order: If the ages are also the same, they look at the names. The candidate whose name comes first in alphabetical order is placed higher.
