    • Initial Pay: ₹21,700 (plus other allowances)
  • Sub-Inspector (Executive):
    • Pay Level: Level-6
    • Initial Pay: ₹35,400 (plus other allowances)

Selection Process

The RPF selection process is a multi-stage journey. You have to qualify at each stage to move on to the next.

Here are the three main phases:

  • Phase I: Computer Based Test (CBT)
  • Phase II: Physical Efficiency Test (PET) / Physical Measurement Test (PMT)
  • Phase III: Document Verification (DV)

First, you have to pass the CBT. Based on your scores, you'll be shortlisted for Phase II (PET/PMT). They will call 10 times the number of vacancies in each category for this round.

After you qualify in the PET/PMT, you'll be called for Document Verification.

Final Merit: Your final selection is based only on the marks you score in the CBT. The physical test is just qualifying—you either pass or you fail, but you don't get marks for it.

Exam Pattern

This section describes the Current exam pattern.

Important Note: If the RPF exam merges with SSC GD, this pattern could change. The General Awareness section might be reduced, and a Hindi/English language paper might be added. But until a new notification comes, this is the official pattern you should prepare for.

Computer Based Test (CBT)

Subject No. of Questions Maximum Marks Total Duration
Arithmetic 35 35
General Intelligence & Reasoning 35 35 90 Minutes
General Awareness 50 50
Total 120 120
  • Marking Scheme: You get 1 mark for every correct answer.
  • Negative Marking: Yes, there is negative marking. 1/3rd of a mark will be deducted for every wrong answer.
  • Normalization: Marks will be normalized if the exam is held in multiple shifts.
  • Difficulty Level:
    • Constable: 10th / Matric level
    • Sub-Inspector: Graduation level

Physical Standards (PET & PMT)

This is a very important stage.

Note: If RPF merges with SSC GD, these tough standards (especially the jumps and the 1600m sprint) might be replaced with the easier SSC GD standard (5 km in 24 minutes). But for now, you MUST prepare for the current standards.

1. Physical Measurement Test (PMT) - Height & Chest

Category Height (Male) Height (Female) Chest (Male Only) - Unexpanded / Expanded
UR / EWS / OBC 165 cm 157 cm 80 cm / 85 cm
SC / ST 160 cm 152 cm 76.2 cm / 81.2 cm
For Garhwalis, Gorkhas, etc. 163 cm 155 cm 80 cm / 85 cm

2. Physical Efficiency Test (PET) - Run & Jumps

The standards are different for Constable and SI.

For Constable (Executive):

Event For Male For Female
1600 meters run 5 min 45 secs N/A
800 meters run N/A 3 min 40 secs
Long Jump 14 feet 9 feet
High Jump 4 feet 3 feet

Important PET Rules:

  • For the 1600m / 800m run, you get only one chance.
  • For the Long Jump and High Jump, you get up to two chances each.
  • Ex-Servicemen (ExSM) do not have to do the PET.

Preparation Tips

  1. Please don't wait for the exam results. The RPF physical test is extremely tough, and many great candidates fail this stage. Start practicing the 1600m run, long jump, and high jump today.
  2. The General Awareness section has the most marks (50). Read newspapers, follow current events, and build a strong base in static GK (History, Geography, Polity).
  3. Maths & Reasoning sections (35 marks each) are where you can score full marks. Practice every single topic until you're confident.
  4. Because the SSC is taking over, be mentally prepared for a new pattern. It's very possible a Hindi/English language section could be added.
  5. Get your hands on the 2018 and 2024 RPF exam papers. Solve them to understand the real level and types of questions they ask.
  6. The medical standard is B-1. This means candidates with glasses, flat feet, knock knees, or color blindness are not eligible. Keep this in mind.

A Special Announcement: The RRB Foundation Batch by RWA

For all students preparing for Railway exams, an important update is on the corner. RWA is launching a comprehensive RRB Foundation Batch.

This batch is designed for all aspirants, whether they are preparing for NTPC, Group D, or any other vacancy released by the Railways. This also includes dedicated RPF aspirants. A key feature of this batch is its flexibility:

    • If the RPF recruitment is conducted as a separate exam, this Foundation Batch will cover the entire RPF syllabus, regardless of any changes.
    • (If RPF is merged with SSC GD, it will be covered within the existing GD batch framework.)
