SSC CGL ASO : Eligibility Criteria
To apply for the post of Assistant Section Officer, you must meet certain requirements related to your education and age.
Educational Qualification
To be eligible for the ASO post, you must have a Bachelor's Degree from a recognized university or an equivalent qualification. This means you must have completed your graduation in any subject.
Age Limit
For the post of Assistant Section Officer in "Other Ministries/ Departments/ Organizations," the age limit is 20 to 30 years or 18 to 30 years (varies by department).

Application Fee and Process :
Application Fee
The application fee for the SSC CGL exam is ₹100 (One Hundred Rupees). However, some candidates do not have to pay this fee, they are:
- All Women candidates
- Candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC)
- Candidates belonging to Scheduled Tribes (ST)
- Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD)
- Ex-Servicemen (ESM)
The fee can be paid online using BHIM UPI, Net Banking, or Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, or RuPay Debit cards.
Application Process
The application must be submitted online through the official SSC website: https://ssc.gov.in. The process involves two main parts:
- One-Time Registration (OTR): If you are a new user, you first need to register on the SSC website. This is a one-time process where you provide your basic details like name, date of birth, mobile number, email, and educational qualifications.
- Filling the Application Form: After registration, you can log in with your registration number and password to fill out the application form for the CGL examination. You will need to provide your preference for exam centers and upload a live photograph and a scanned signature.
SSC CGL ASO : Salary
The salary for an Assistant Section Officer is quite attractive. The ASO post in "Other Ministries/ Departments/ Organizations" falls under Pay Level-7 of the 7th Central Pay Commission. This corresponds to a pay scale of ₹44,900 to ₹1,42,400.
This means the starting basic pay is ₹44,900 per month. In addition to the basic pay, you will also get other allowances like Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), and Transport Allowance (TA). These allowances depend on the city you are posted in. The total starting salary in hand would be significantly higher than the basic pay, making it a well-paid job.
SSC CGL ASO : Selection Process
The selection process for the ASO post through the SSC CGL exam is conducted in two stages, called Tiers.
- Tier-I: This is a computer-based examination that is qualifying in nature. This means you need to score the minimum cut-off marks to be eligible for the next stage. The marks from this tier are not added to the final merit list.
- Tier-II: This is the main examination, also computer-based. Your final selection depends entirely on your performance in this tier.
After the Tier-II exam, a final merit list is prepared. Candidates who are selected will have their documents verified by the department they are allotted to.
